App on your phone

The app installs like any other on a phone, tablet or computer: an icon on the home screen that opens it in its own window. Settings > App on your phone has a code to open the server on the phone and the steps for Android, iPhone and iPad and computers; in Chrome, Edge and Samsung Internet an Install the app button does it in one step.

To install it as an app the address must be HTTPS (a reverse proxy, Tailscale or a Cloudflare Tunnel); with http://192.168... the icon also works, but opens like a page of the browser. Apple does not let a web page install itself, so on iPhone and iPad it is always done from the Share button, Add to Home Screen.

The code opens the address in use, so a local one (192.168...) only works at home. From outside, the phone needs a way to reach the server: a VPN (Tailscale, WireGuard or the one of your router; no domain, fixed IP nor open ports, the safest), a Cloudflare Tunnel (a domain of yours and a free account give an HTTPS address without opening ports) or a reverse proxy (Nginx Proxy Manager, Caddy or SWAG with a domain and port 443 open; a dynamic DNS such as DuckDNS replaces a fixed IP). Turn on users in the app before opening it to the internet.
