Boar 0.7.7

Choose a tag to compare

@MatteoFilosa MatteoFilosa released this 12 Oct 10:26

Boar is a video editor with a multitrack timeline and AI that runs on your PC. This version answers the fourth round of feedback: a chroma key that removes any color you click (white backgrounds too), precise Pan/Crop with the arrow keys, a new track when you drop a clip below the others, and preview sound that no longer drops out after jumping around during playback.

Alpha. It is already good for real editing, but it is young: save often and report what goes wrong.

New in 0.7.7

  • Chroma key with an eyedropper. The Chroma Keyer now has a key color: click the eyedropper and then the color to remove in the preview. It reads the clip's own picture, before its effects, so it works on a green or blue screen and on a white, grey or black background. Remove › Background only takes the color away only around the subject: a product shot on white loses its background but keeps the white logo printed on it (closed gaps larger than Keep enclosed areas up to, like the space inside a bag's handles, go too).
  • Precise Pan/Crop. The arrow keys move the frame by one pixel, ten with Shift, in the Event Pan/Crop window after you click it, and in the preview after you click a picture (click the timeline and the arrows step frames again). Shift+drag moves slowly. A row of presses is one undo step.
  • A new track by dragging. Drag a clip into the empty space below the last track and a new track appears for it.
  • Reverse is also in the right-click menu when a time selection is active.

Fixed

  • Sound dropping out after a jump. Going back to the start or clicking elsewhere during playback could leave a gap a moment after the sound came back, and sometimes again every second. The preview now gets the sound ready before starting it, exactly where the timeline is, and no longer mistakes the uneven clock of a playing sound for drift. In our tests the only silence left is the instant of the jump, and picture and sound stay within a few hundredths of a second of each other.
  • Pan/Crop drag running away. With a picture smaller than the frame, dragging the frame in the Pan/Crop window moved it faster and faster, because the view refitted under the pointer. The view now holds still while you drag.

For AI agents (MCP)

  • add_fx takes the effect's settings, for example chromaKey with {"color": "#ffffff", "area": 1} to remove a white background around a product.
  • speaker_corner: keeps the face cam in a corner (a circle or a box) over B-roll, on a track above it.

Novità in 0.7.7

Boar 0.7.6

Choose a tag to compare

@MatteoFilosa MatteoFilosa released this 10 Oct 11:14

Boar is a video editor with a multitrack timeline and AI that runs on your PC. This version answers the third round of feedback: clips that play backwards, an AI agent that can pan and zoom, thumbnails that come back when a project is reopened, and a boar that celebrates when the work is done. AI agents also get what they need to edit long recordings.

Alpha. It is already good for real editing, but it is young: save often and report what goes wrong.

New in 0.7.6

  • Reverse. Right-click a clip (or Tools › Reverse): it plays backwards, picture and sound, in the same place and with the same length. The first time, Boar writes a reversed copy of the part of the file the clip uses (a few seconds for a short clip, while the boar runs in the progress window) and keeps it with your media, so reversing that clip again, or another clip of the same file, is instant. Reverse a reversed clip and it plays forward again. Pan/Crop, masks and volume points stay on the same picture.
  • The boar crosses the finish line. When a long task ends (render, captions, transcript, download, Reverse, Auto Reframe, Auto Zoom, mask tracking) the boar of the progress bar runs past the flag, hops and throws confetti. Windows that close by themselves leave the bar on screen for a moment. Options › Celebrate Finished Tasks turns it off, and it stays still when the system asks for less motion.

Fixed

  • Thumbnails of images and GIFs after reopening a project. Project Media showed them only right after importing; a reopened project showed empty tiles for pictures (videos were fine).

For AI agents (MCP)

  • get_pan_crop and set_pan_crop: read and write Event Pan/Crop keyframes (times from the clip start or from its end, the point of the picture at the center of the frame, zoom as a number or fit/fill, rotation). The same keyframes can go on many clips in one step.
  • reverse: plays clips backwards, and forward again.
  • For long recordings: media_info (length, size and frame rate of files without importing them), look_at_media (a contact sheet of frames spread over a file or a part of it), freeze_frame (a still from a clip, with its framing), timelapse (hours of screen recording in a few seconds) and spotlight (darkens everything but a rectangle, to point at a detail).
  • New prompt voiceover_with_broll: from a recorded voiceover to a finished explainer, with the matching moments of your recordings under each part.

Novità in 0.7.6

  • Reverse.

Boar 0.7.5

Choose a tag to compare

@MatteoFilosa MatteoFilosa released this 06 Oct 16:59

Boar is a video editor with a multitrack timeline and AI that runs on your PC. This version answers the second round of feedback: transitions that work the way editors expect, animated GIFs that move on the timeline, and preview sound that no longer drops out on some files.

Alpha. It is already good for real editing, but it is young: save often and report what goes wrong.

New in 0.7.5

  • Transitions where you put them. Drag a transition from the Transitions tab onto the start or the end of a clip, or onto two overlapping clips: there the whole overlap becomes the transition, instead of the plain crossfade. While you drag, the part it will cover lights up and the status bar says where it goes.
  • You can see them on the timeline. Each transition shades the part it covers and shows a small tag with its name (shortened with "…" when there is little room). Click the tag to open the Transition window; right-click it to change the type or remove it.
  • Length and position in the Transition window. Choose Start of the clip or End of the clip, the type and the length (slider or seconds). On an overlap the length is the overlap itself: changing it trims both clips around its middle, their sound included. On a plain cut the transition stays centered on it, so the timing of the edit does not change. At the start or end of a clip with nothing next to it, the clip comes in or goes out with the effect. The clip's right-click menu has Transition In... and Transition Out....
  • Animated GIFs. GIFs (and animated WebP and PNG) play on the timeline, in a loop, in the preview and in the render, instead of standing still on the first frame.

Fixed

  • Preview sound that sometimes did not play. When the sound of a clip fell behind the picture, the preview moved it back to where the timeline had been; with long files, or files that take a moment to seek, it was already late again when it got there, so it kept jumping and stayed silent. It now aims where the timeline will be and gives it time, and the sound plays. The same fix keeps the video of slow files from stalling during playback.
  • Videos imported without sound now say why in the status bar (a sound format this system cannot decode, like AC-3 from some cameras), and the preview says when it cannot play a file's sound.

For AI agents (MCP)

  • New set_transition: type, side (in or out) and length for clips; none removes it. get_project lists each clip's transitions.

Italiano

Novità in 0.7.5

Scegli Start of the clip o End of the clip, il tipo e la durata (slider o secondi).

Boar 0.7.4

Choose a tag to compare

@MatteoFilosa MatteoFilosa released this 05 Oct 23:38

Boar is a video editor with a multitrack timeline and AI that runs on your PC. This version answers the first round of feedback from people editing with it: captions that follow the edit, Auto Ripple when you drag, real control over keyframes, masks that move with the picture, a timeline that scrolls while you drag, and images dragged from the web that stay in the project.

Alpha. It is already good for real editing, but it is young: save often and report what goes wrong.

New in 0.7.4

  • Captions follow the edit. Generate captions first, then cut silences, trim, move or delete clips: each caption moves with its words, loses the words you cut out, splits when its words end up apart and goes away with the last one. A caption you nudged keeps its nudge, and one Ctrl+Z undoes the edit and the captions together. Options › Captions Follow Clip Edits (on by default) turns it off. It works with captions made from now on: generate older ones again once.
  • Auto Ripple when you drag. With Auto Ripple on, moving an event moves what comes after it, and dragging an edge to shorten or lengthen an event pulls or pushes the rest (trimming the start keeps the event in place). Markers follow with the tracks and markers and all modes.
  • Keyframes under control. On the keyframe bar of Event Pan/Crop and Event Mask: click a keyframe to select it, Ctrl+click for more, Shift+click for a range; drag to move them; Delete removes them; Ctrl+C / Ctrl+X / Ctrl+V copy, cut and paste them at the cursor, also into another event; Ctrl+A selects them all.
  • Masks move with the picture. A new ellipse or rectangle mask is part of the image: move, zoom or turn it with Pan/Crop (or the preview handles) and the masked part goes along, instead of sliding under a fixed window. The Mask window can switch back (Moves with the picture), projects made before keep their look, and the Pan/Crop window shows the mask outline.
  • The timeline scrolls while you drag. Near the left or right edge (or past it) the timeline scrolls: events, edges, the ruler, media from Project Media and files from the file manager. Near the top or bottom it scrolls the tracks.
  • Wheel zoom around the cursor. The mouse wheel zooms around the playback cursor, at the mouse when the cursor is out of view.
  • Track height from the keyboard. Ctrl+Shift++ / Ctrl+Shift+- make every track taller or shorter (also in View).
  • Interface size. Ctrl++, Ctrl+- and Ctrl+0, or View › Bigger / Smaller Interface: menus, panels and timeline grow or shrink together, and Boar remembers the size.

Fixed

  • Images dragged from a web page vanished after closing the project: they were kept only in memory. They are now saved in Boar's media folder like pasted images. Images lost this way come back if you drag the same image into Project Media again: Boar recognizes it (same name and size) and your edits on the timeline are kept.
  • Left and right arrows while playing moved by a single frame, too little to notice. They now jump 5 seconds back or forward while playing and keep stepping one frame when stopped; Shift+← / Shift+→ move one second. After using a drop-down list or a slider with the mouse, the keyboard goes back to the shortcuts instead of changing that control.
  • Word timings are now taken from the speech parts the engine finds: words land where they are said, also after long pauses.

For AI agents (MCP)

  • set_mask has follow_picture (default on): the ellipse or rectangle becomes part of the picture and moves with its Pan/Crop.

Novità in 0.7.4

I marker seguono nelle modalità tracks and markers e all.
  • Keyframe sotto controllo.
  • Dimensione dell'interfaccia. Ctrl++, Ctrl+- e Ctrl+0, oppure View › Bigger / Smaller Interface: menu, pannelli e timeline crescono o rimpiccioliscono insieme, e Boar ricorda la dimensione.

Corretto

Boar 0.7.3

Choose a tag to compare

@MatteoFilosa MatteoFilosa released this 05 Oct 14:28

Boar is a video editor with a multitrack timeline and AI that runs on your PC. This version fixes word timings in transcripts and captions, makes captions for a whole cut-up video in one go and starts the sound at once after a jump on the timeline.

Alpha. It is already good for real editing, but it is young: save often and report what goes wrong.

Fixed in 0.7.3

  • Word timings drifted in transcripts and captions (Boar 0.7.0 to 0.7.2). The speech engine skips pauses to be faster, and the words came back on that pause-free clock: the longer the video, the earlier each word was placed, until the last part of long videos was missing from the Transcript and from text-based editing, and karaoke captions ran ahead of the voice. Words are now back in their place. Transcripts made with 0.7.0 to 0.7.2 need to be made again: tick Transcribe again in Generate Captions (the Transcript tab gets the new words too).
  • Captions for every clip. After Remove Silences a video is many clips, and Generate Captions only captioned the first one. Now you choose Captions for: the whole timeline, the selected clips (Ctrl+click or the selection tool) or the time selection. Each file is transcribed once and the captions follow every cut. New captions go on the existing Captions track when it has room.
  • Sound after a jump on the timeline. Moving to another point could leave the sound silent for a few seconds, as if the file were reloading, especially with long recordings cut into many pieces. Loaded sound is now reused across the pieces of a clip and the sound under the cursor is ready before you press play.

For AI agents (MCP)

  • add_media puts pictures, videos and sound effects on the timeline: over the speaker with a pop, whole on screen or full frame; sounds go on a Sound Effects track. list_files finds files in your media library (Explorer tab), import_media imports by path.
  • move_range moves a part of the video, on every track, to another point: reorder the story without gaps.
  • transcribe can transcribe again (again).

Corretto in 0.7.3

Boar 0.7.2

Choose a tag to compare

@MatteoFilosa MatteoFilosa released this 05 Oct 13:36

Boar is a video editor with a multitrack timeline and AI that runs on your PC. This version copies the look of one event onto many, adds a selection tool and fixes phone videos that came in as sound only.

Alpha. It is already good for real editing, but it is young: save often and report what goes wrong.

New in 0.7.2

  • Paste Event Attributes (Ctrl+Shift+V, in the Edit menu and the right-click menu). Edit one piece of a clip, copy it, select the other pieces and paste: they get the same Video FX and Audio FX, Event Pan/Crop, mask, level or volume and, between text events, the same text style and position (each keeps its own words). Keyframes keep their place from the start of each event, so an animated zoom plays the same way on every piece. Selectively Paste Event Attributes lets you tick what to paste, and remembers your choice. Undo brings everything back in one step.
  • Selection edit tool (the dashed-pointer button in the toolbar, or Ctrl+D): drag anywhere, over events too, and a dashed rectangle selects everything it touches without moving or trimming anything. Shift adds to the selection, Ctrl toggles, a click selects one event. Ctrl+D again goes back to the normal tool.
  • Fix: some phone and chat app videos were imported as sound only. Their H.264 header carries a wrong level value, so the picture was refused. Boar now reads the right value from the video itself: these files import with picture and sound, and so does everything made from them (preview, proxies, render).

Novità in 0.7.2

Boar is a video editor with a multitrack timeline and AI that runs on your PC. This version opens projects straight from the file manager and turns the shortcut list into an interactive keyboard map.

Alpha. It is already good for real editing, but it is young: save often and report what goes wrong.

New in 0.7.1

  • Double-click a project to open it. .boar files now belong to Boar (Windows, macOS and the .deb package): a double click, Open with or dropping the file on the app icon opens the project, not an empty editor. With Boar already open, the project opens in that window, after asking about unsaved changes. Dropping a .boar file on the timeline or on Project Media opens it too.
  • Keyboard Shortcuts window. F1, the new keyboard button in the toolbar or Help › Keyboard Shortcuts opens every shortcut on a keyboard map. Hold Ctrl, Shift or Alt (or click them) to see what they do with each key, point at a key to read its action, and search or browse the list by group, with the mouse gestures at the end. The window can stay open while you edit: every shortcut keeps working and the ones you press light up with their name.

Novità in 0.7.1

Boar 0.7.0

Choose a tag to compare

@MatteoFilosa MatteoFilosa released this 04 Oct 16:07

Boar is a video editor with a multitrack timeline and AI that runs on your PC. This version has speech recognition built in, so captions and the Transcript work right after installing, with no FFmpeg. It also lets you choose who encodes your renders and brings themes.

Alpha. It is already good for real editing, but it is young: save often and report what goes wrong.

New in 0.7.0

  • Captions and Transcript work out of the box. Speech recognition (whisper.cpp) now ships inside Boar: no FFmpeg, nothing else to install, on Windows, macOS and Linux. It runs on the graphics card (Vulkan on Windows and Linux with any vendor, Metal on macOS) and on the processor when there is no driver. The first time, Boar downloads the Whisper model you pick, as before.
    • Only the speech is transcribed: a voice detector skips music and silence, so no more made-up lines over a soundtrack, and videos with long quiet stretches are transcribed much faster.
    • It also works for files dropped in without a path on disk.
  • Render As: choose who encodes. The graphics card (shown with its technology: NVENC, Quick Sync, AMF, VideoToolbox) or the processor, automatic by default. Each format shows what this PC can do, and the audio can be AAC, Opus or none. Your choices are remembered.
  • Themes. Options › Themes switches between Dark, Light, Galaxy and Ember. A theme is a small JSON file anyone can make: export one as a template, change the colors and load it back, or share it. The README shows the format. Theme files are only colors: they cannot load anything from the internet.
  • Download from Link no longer needs FFmpeg: Boar joins the video and sound streams itself, and Audio only keeps the original sound. The window stays open beside the timeline, with Download and Add to Timeline, and you can drag the last download straight to a track.
  • Space pauses where you are. Options › Space Returns to the Start Position brings back the old behavior.
  • Event Pan/Crop and Event Mask: no black frames while moving through the clip, the same timecode as the preview, and a clear hint on how to add the first keyframe.

Alpha.

Novità in 0.7.0

  • Sottotitoli e Transcript funzionano subito.
  • Render As: scegli chi codifica.
  • Spazio mette in pausa dove sei. Options › Space Returns to the Start Position riporta il comportamento di prima.

Boar 0.6.1

Choose a tag to compare

@MatteoFilosa MatteoFilosa released this 04 Oct 12:09

Boar is a video editor with a multitrack timeline and AI that runs on your PC. This version makes heavy videos scrub smoothly and shows Remove Silences' cuts right on the timeline.

Alpha. It is already good for real editing, but it is young: save often and report what goes wrong.

New in 0.6.1

  • Proxies for videos that are slow to seek. Screen recordings often have a keyframe only every few seconds, so every jump in the preview had to decode hundreds of frames and the picture went black for a moment. Boar now spots these videos (and anything bigger than 1440p) when you import them and makes a light copy in the background, with your graphics card. The preview plays the copy, renders always use the original. On an 8-minute 1080p60 recording, jumps went from about 200 ms to 20 ms and frame stepping from 150 ms to under 10 ms; the proxy took about a minute and a half.
    • Project Media shows the progress and a Proxy badge. Right-click a video to create or delete its proxy; Options › Proxies for Videos Slow to Seek turns them off.
    • Proxies are kept in Boar's own folder and deleted after 30 days without use.
  • No more black frames while seeking: the preview keeps the last picture until the new one is ready.
  • Remove Silences shows its cuts on the timeline: the window no longer covers the timeline, and the pauses it will cut appear in red on the video and audio tracks while you adjust the settings.

Novità in 0.6.1

Boar 0.6.0

Choose a tag to compare

@MatteoFilosa MatteoFilosa released this 04 Oct 10:18

Boar is a video editor with a multitrack timeline and AI that runs on your PC. This version lets you rotate anything, draw your own masks and cut out an object with a click, and makes sure nothing ever leaves your computer.

Alpha. It is already good for real editing, but it is young: save often and report what goes wrong.

New in 0.6.0

  • Rotate text, images and video: in the preview, move the mouse just outside a corner of the selected item and drag (hold Shift for 15° steps). Ctrl+R and Ctrl+Shift+R turn the selection by 90°, handy for phone footage shot sideways: a clip that filled the frame still fills it. Text has a Rotation field too, and Event Pan/Crop rotates the same way.
  • Custom masks: Event Mask has a new Custom shape. Click to place points, joined by straight sides or a smooth curve, drag them, and animate the shape with keyframes like Event Pan/Crop.
  • Smart Select: pick the tool and click an object: the AI cuts it out. Click more parts to add them, Alt+click what to leave out. Track Motion follows the object through the whole clip. It runs on your PC, on the graphics card when it can.
  • Nothing leaves your PC. The AI library Boar uses tried to send usage logs to Google every minute: Boar now blocks that and any other connection, except the downloads you ask for (updates, speech models, yt-dlp).
  • AI agents (MCP) get two new tools: rotate and set_mask (cut out an object and track it).

Novità in 0.6.0
