Shrines and Rituals

Bosses of the Overworld, the Nether and the End are summoned at shrines. Each shrine type accepts its own offerings.

Shrine Found in Offerings
Overworld Shrine Overworld Verdant Heart (Sylvaron), Storm Sigil (Aureon), Sunken Scarab (Nekhraz)
Nether Shrine Nether Molten War Core (Varkhul), Eclipse Soulstone (Morvath)
End Shrine End Shattered Void Crown (Elyndra)
Primordial Nexus Overworld (rare) Primordial Keystone (Astrael)

Some bosses can only be summoned in certain biomes – for example Sylvaron only in forests and old-growth taigas. Each boss page lists where.

Finding shrines

Shrines generate in the world around players: about one Overworld Shrine per 34×34 chunks, one Nether Shrine per 38×38, one End Shrine per 52×52 and one Primordial Nexus per 118×118 chunks. They are placed on flat ground and get a small foundation, so they are never buried.

The Shrine Locator Compass points you to them:

  • Right-click – find the nearest shrine of the selected type. The chat shows the shrine type, coordinates and distance.
  • Sneak + right-click – change the type. In the Overworld: Nearest, Overworld or Primordial. In the Nether: Nearest or Nether. In the End: Nearest or End.

The compass also finds shrines in chunks that were not generated yet. They are built when you get there.

You can also craft and place shrines yourself – see Recipes. A placed shrine works exactly like a generated one.

Starting a ritual

  1. Right-click the shrine to open it.
  2. Put a matching offering into the slot.
  3. Press the start button. The offering is used up; if you close the shrine without starting, you get it back.
  4. A short countdown runs, then the boss appears with an intro.

A shrine needs a short break before it can summon the same boss again (30 seconds by default).

Realm altars

In the Worldbreaker Realm bosses are called at altars instead, with a sigil. See The Worldbreaker Realm.
