TLD RevaMP 0.69.1 (dev build)

Pre-release

Choose a tag to compare

@Normal99 Normal99 released this 17 Oct 23:54

Development pre-release from dev: the in-game mod browser, readable Windows/Linux installers, and the GPL-3.0 source release.

Dev build: this pre-release comes from dev; main is unchanged. Existing v0.69.0 playtest caveats still apply.

Install

Use The Long Drive on Steam, beta branch: Library > right-click The Long Drive > Properties > Betas > choose beta. Back up your saves first (Documents\TheLongDrive\Saves). Everyone in a multiplayer session should update together.

On Windows, download and read install.ps1, then run it with PowerShell and choose install/update. On Linux or Steam Deck, download and read install.sh, then run bash install.sh and choose install/update. Both scripts check their downloads against pinned SHA-256 values, back up replaced files, and offer repair and uninstall. The Linux script sets the Proton DLL override.

For manual installation, extract TLD-RevaMP-0.69.1.zip into the game folder so winhttp.dll sits beside TheLongDrive.exe. On Linux/Steam Deck, also set Steam launch options to:

WINEDLLOVERRIDES="winhttp=n,b" %command%

Start the game and check that the overlay shows TLD Revamp 0.69.1.

Changes since v0.69.0

  • Settings > Revamp > Mods opens the approved-mod browser contributed by AnonymousTLD. Downloads require a locally approved DLL hash; installation and removal take effect after restarting the game.
  • The browser reads its catalog from dev, where the catalog is available. Head Unit 0.2.0 and Car Trailer 0.1.1 use their original release assets; both are approved by their exact DLL hashes.
  • The catalog uses BepInEx GUIDs (tldrevamp.headunit, tldrevamp.cartrailer). Head Unit's multiplayer registration id remains headunit. Its catalog baseline remains RevaMP 0.68.0.
  • The readable installer scripts support install/update, repair and uninstall on Windows and Linux/Steam Deck.
  • Project code and the multiplayer API are GPL-3.0. The example mods' sources and READMEs are included in the repository.
  • Contributor checks run on pushes to dev as well as main.

Source history

The mod-browser commit 62b7282 is already in dev once; PR #5 was closed after the commit reached the branch directly. The v0.69.0 release tag points to 59215da. The later commit 314a00e, also titled “TLD RevaMP 0.69.0”, only published example-mod sources and documentation; it is not a second release. Shared commit history is preserved.

Validation

Two-machine smoke suite: 38/38 checks, covering driving/joining (6), inventory (6), crate loot (8), bullet stopping (3), and worn items through a ride and rejoin (15). Mod-catalog and network-reader unit tests, all eight Python helper tests, ShellCheck and PowerShell syntax checks pass. Both installer scripts pass install, repair and uninstall against the final pinned downloads on a stand-in game folder. The packaged BepInEx files match its official release, and the public source and packaged DLLs pass the privacy checks.

The attached SHA256SUMS lists the checksums of the ZIPs and installer scripts.

TLD RevaMP 0.69.0

Choose a tag to compare

@Normal99 Normal99 released this 17 Oct 20:59

Hosts can now see and manage the players who left, and run their server with admin commands. Hits on cars, creatures and items are checked by the host, and mod makers get the next part of the multiplayer API.

Everyone must update. Players on different versions can't join each other (the game tells you).

Install

You need The Long Drive on Steam, beta branch: Steam > Library > right-click The Long Drive > Properties > Betas > choose beta. Back up your saves first (Documents\TheLongDrive\Saves). This is a test build.

Windows

  1. Download TLD-RevaMP-0.69.0.zip below.
  2. Steam > right-click The Long Drive > Manage > Browse local files.
  3. Copy everything from the zip into that folder. winhttp.dll must sit next to TheLongDrive.exe.
  4. Start the game. The overlay in the top left shows "TLD Revamp 0.69.0".

Linux / Steam Deck (Proton): same as Windows, then add this to Steam > The Long Drive > Properties > General > Launch options:

WINEDLLOVERRIDES="winhttp=n,b" %command%

Updating from an earlier RevaMP: close the game and copy everything from the zip over the old files (say yes to replace). Your saves and settings stay.

Remove any other mod loader (TLDLoader/ModLoader) from the game folder first. INSTALL.txt in the zip has the same steps, plus how to uninstall.

New

  • Saved players in the Revamp menu. The host sees who has left the game, what waits for them and where, and can forget a player (they join as new next time).
  • Admin commands. The host, and players whose Steam IDs are listed under [Server] Admins in the config, can type /players, /kick, /ban, /unban, /bans, /say, /save, /password, /maxplayers, /tpa, /saved, /forget, /status (and /stop on a dedicated server) in the chat. Anyone else is told the commands are for admins. Bans last across sessions (BepInEx\TLDRevampServer\bans.txt).
  • Dedicated server console. A server has no window: write commands into BepInEx\TLDRevampServer\commands.txt, one per line, and the answers appear in console.txt next to it. stop saves and shuts the server down. The server also turns off its sounds and particle effects.
  • Hits on things are checked. A shot, a blow or a set-off explosion on a car, a creature or an item that belongs to someone else must come from close enough to it. One from kilometres away is refused and logged, as hits on players already were.
  • For mod makers: the multiplayer API, part 2. A mod's objects can send frequent state (a needle, a light) to nearby players only, are put away for players far off and come back with their latest state, and a mod can register settings that follow the host for the whole session. A scanner reads a TLD Loader mod and writes what it would need for multiplayer, with a code skeleton: [Mods] ScanLoaderMods in the config, or tools/modscan in the source. See docs/MODDING-MULTIPLAYER.md.
  • For slower machines in big sessions: [Multiplayer] CopyShadowsOffBeyondM in the config turns off shadows on other players' cars farther than that many metres (0, the default, keeps them).

Fixed

  • Rabbits far away no longer flood the log. A rabbit 200 to 300 m from you (frozen by the game's item streaming) wrote a warning every frame, thousands a minute, and cost time in every frame. Their movement now waits until they wake up.
  • A car resting on the ground stays where its owner has it on your screen. A car that rolled down a slope could stop about 2 m off on the other players' screens; a copy at rest that is off for more than a second and a half is now put in place.

Example mods

Unchanged: Head Unit 0.2.0 and Car Trailer 0.1.1 (same files as with 0.68.4).

Reports

If something looks wrong, press Page Down right away to save a report (BepInEx\tldrevamp-feedback). If you turned on Settings > Revamp > Debugging > "Send my reports to the host", the host gets a copy too.

Tested between two PCs over the Steam relay, with up to 16 players for two and a half hours.

Known:

  • A storm that was already there when you saved starts its 15 to 30 minutes again when you load the save.
  • Right after a player comes back to a car, its doors and mirrors can look about 1 m off for a few seconds on the other screen (seen once; it corrects itself).
  • Worn things, not tested yet: dying while wearing something, a wearer far away from you, lighting a cigarette from its pack (it goes on your face), and the host restarting while a player who left had a hat on. Press Page Down if one of them looks wrong.
  • A building missing for one player while they stand next to it: not reproduced yet; the host's report now names it. Press Page Down right away if you see it.
  • A car carried on a trailer can look up to about 1 m off the trailer for a moment to other players while the host tows it (it stays on the bed).
  • The example mods are first versions: expect rough edges, and press Page Down if something goes wrong.

Remove any other mod loader (TLDLoader/ModLoader) from the game folder first. INSTALL.txt in the zip has the same steps, plus how to uninstall.

Fixed

  • A hat you wore when you left shows on you again for everyone when you come back. Before, the item was back on your own head, but sometimes the host's game took it over on the way. It then sat a little below and beside you on your own screen, and nobody else saw it on you. It now arrives already marked as worn.

  • A building missing for one player while they stand next to it: not reproduced yet; the host's report now names it. Press Page Down right away if you see it.
  • A car that rolls down a slope on its own can end up slightly off (about 2 m) on the other players' screens.
  • A car carried on a trailer can look up to about 1 m off the trailer for a moment to other players while the host tows it (it stays on the bed).

TLD RevaMP 0.68.4

Choose a tag to compare

@Normal99 Normal99 released this 17 Oct 12:38

Sandstorms are much rarer, most of them pass by in the distance, and they die down after a while. A new setting picks how often they come.

Windows

  1. Download TLD-RevaMP-0.68.4.zip below.
  2. Steam > right-click The Long Drive > Manage > Browse local files.
  3. Copy everything from the zip into that folder. winhttp.dll must sit next to TheLongDrive.exe.
  4. Start the game. The overlay in the top left shows "TLD Revamp 0.68.4".

Remove any other mod loader (TLDLoader/ModLoader) from the game folder first. INSTALL.txt in the zip has the same steps, plus how to uninstall.

Fixed

  • Sandstorms no longer find you at every stop in the desert. Before, every storm came up 1.5 km from a player heading straight at them, one every 15 to 45 minutes, and kept going until it left the sand. So almost any building you stopped at in the desert got one, and they nearly always reached you. Now a storm comes every 30 to 75 minutes while you're on sand, 4 in 10 come your way and the others pass by in the distance, and each one dies down after 15 to 30 minutes.

New setting

  • Settings > Revamp > World > Sandstorms: Off, Rare (one every 1 to 2.5 hours, a quarter come your way), Normal (the default) or Often (every 15 to 45 minutes, most come your way, close to how it was). In multiplayer the host's setting counts.

Example mods

Unchanged: Head Unit 0.2.0 and Car Trailer 0.1.1 (same files as with 0.68.3).

Reports

If something looks wrong, press Page Down right away to save a report (BepInEx\tldrevamp-feedback). If you turned on Settings > Revamp > Debugging > "Send my reports to the host", the host gets a copy too.

Tested between two PCs over the Steam relay.

  • A hat you wore when you left is back on your head when you return, but the other players may not see it there (seen in tests, also with 0.68.2; being looked at).
  • Right after a player comes back to a car, its doors and mirrors can look about 1 m off for a few seconds on the other screen (seen once; it corrects itself).

TLD RevaMP 0.68.3

Choose a tag to compare

@Normal99 Normal99 released this 17 Oct 11:40

Players get their pockets back after the host restarts the game, the Car01's radiator breaks when its tank goes off, and the host's teleport-request setting is remembered.

Windows

  1. Download TLD-RevaMP-0.68.3.zip below.
  2. Steam > right-click The Long Drive > Manage > Browse local files.
  3. Copy everything from the zip into that folder. winhttp.dll must sit next to TheLongDrive.exe.
  4. Start the game. The overlay in the top left shows "TLD Revamp 0.68.3".

Linux / Steam Deck (Proton): same as Windows, then add this to Steam > The Long Drive > Properties > General > Launch options:

WINEDLLOVERRIDES="winhttp=n,b" %command%

Fixed

  • Your pockets come back after the host restarts the game. Before, the host's file of players' pockets and positions was always saved empty, so pockets came back only while the host's game kept running. After a restart, a player who had left got nothing back, and the things they had carried were gone.
  • The players' pockets go with the save they belong to. Before, if the host went to the main menu without saving and loaded the last save, something a player picked up after that save could turn up twice, and something they dropped could be gone. A new world with the same seed as an old one also gave players the old world's pockets. Now the pockets are saved next to each save of the world (and move with the autosaves), and a new world starts with none.
  • The Car01's radiator breaks when its tank goes off. The game's own code stopped partway on that car (also in single player), so the radiator stayed. Now it breaks, for everyone.
  • The teleport-request setting is remembered. It is now in Settings > Revamp > Multiplayer ("Teleport requests (when you host)"), and the button on the host card saves it too.

For developers

Pull requests are checked automatically: the test tools compile on Python 3.9 and later, their helper tests and the network reader's unit test pass, and a privacy scan finds no personal paths, addresses, IDs, keys, binaries or decompiled game code. tools/doctor.py checks your setup for the test tools (#4).

Example mods

Unchanged: Head Unit 0.2.0 and Car Trailer 0.1.1 (same files as with 0.68.2).

Reports

If something looks wrong, press Page Down right away to save a report (BepInEx\tldrevamp-feedback). If you turned on Settings > Revamp > Debugging > "Send my reports to the host", the host gets a copy too.

Tested between two PCs over the Steam relay.

Known:

  • A hat you wore when you left is back on your head when you return, but the other players may not see it there (seen in tests, also with 0.68.2; being looked at).
  • Right after a player comes back to a car, its doors and mirrors can look about 1 m off for a few seconds on the other screen (seen once; it corrects itself).

  • A car that rolls down a slope on its own can end up slightly off (about 2 m) on the other players' screens.
  • A car carried on a trailer can look up to about 1 m off the trailer for a moment to other players while the host tows it (it stays on the bed).

TLD RevaMP 0.68.2

@Normal99 Normal99 released this 17 Oct 03:48

Hats, caps, glasses, helmets and masks now show up on the player wearing them, for everyone. Fixes from the last playtest, and the host now checks who joins and what each player sends.

WINEDLLOVERRIDES="winhttp=n,b" %command%

Fixed

  • What you wear is shown to the other players. Before, a hat or a pair of glasses you put on wasn't really on you for the others: it trailed after your head (metres behind you as a passenger in a moving car), and another player could take it off your head by grabbing it. Now it sits on your head on every screen, also in cars, and nobody else can take it while you wear it. Taking it off or dropping it shows for everyone. Someone who joins later sees what everybody already wears.

  • The host's glasses no longer end up on the joiner. If the host was wearing something before starting the game, a player joining got it put on their own head.

  • What you wear comes back with you. Leave and join again, and your hat or glasses are on your head again, as with the things in your pockets.

  • Something you take out of a car or off a pallet shows where you put it. Before, a jerry can taken off the back seat and set down a few metres away still sat on the seat on the other players' screens.

  • You can grab something lying in a car while someone drives it. Before, the host refused it as if you were taking over the car.

  • A part destroyed in an explosion is gone for everyone. When a fuel tank went off (a crash, a shot), the part it sat in, such as a radiator, vanished only for the car's owner; the others still saw it.

  • Bats no longer flood the game's log. A bat that hadn't woken up yet logged a warning every frame (millions of lines in a long session). Thanks to AnonymousTLD for the fix (#2).

Safer hosting

  • A player is who Steam says they are: joining under someone else's Steam ID (to take their pockets or place) is refused.
  • One player can only change an object they are next to, and can't flood the host with new objects, messages or reports. Normal play stays well below the limits.
  • The host's file of players' pockets and positions is written safely: stopping the game at the wrong moment no longer loses it.

For developers

The test tools are now in the public repo, with a guide to building and testing (docs/CONTRIBUTING.md, tools/README.md). You decompile the game yourself; nothing of the game's code is in the repo.

Example mods

Unchanged: Head Unit 0.2.0 and Car Trailer 0.1.1 (same files as with 0.68.1).

Reports

If something looks wrong, press Page Down right away to save a report (BepInEx\tldrevamp-feedback). If you turned on Settings > Revamp > Debugging > "Send my reports to the host", the host gets a copy too.

Tested between two PCs over the Steam relay.

Known:

  • The Car01's radiator doesn't break when its tank goes off: the game's own code stops partway (also in single player). Other cars' radiators do.
  • Right after a player comes back to a car, its doors and mirrors can look about 1 m off for a few seconds on the other screen (seen once in two test runs; it corrects itself).
  • Worn things, not tested yet: dying while wearing something, a wearer far away from you, three or more players, lighting a cigarette from its pack (it goes on your face), and the host saving and reloading while a player who left had a hat on. Press Page Down if one of them looks wrong.
  • A building missing for one player while they stand next to it: not reproduced yet; the host's report now names it. Press Page Down right away if you see it.
  • A car that rolls down a slope on its own can end up slightly off (about 2 m) on the other players' screens.
  • If the host quits without saving right after you picked something up, that thing can turn up twice the next time.
  • The teleport-request setting is not remembered when the host restarts the game.
  • A car carried on a trailer can look up to about 1 m off the trailer for a moment to other players while the host tows it (it stays on the bed).
  • The example mods are first versions: expect rough edges, and press Page Down if something goes wrong.

TLD RevaMP 0.68.1

Choose a tag to compare

@Normal99 Normal99 released this 16 Oct 18:29

Fixes for the three biggest problems from the last playtests: items in a car now go with it when someone else takes the wheel, cars no longer come back missing parts, and a check for buildings one player sees and another doesn't.

Remove any other mod loader (TLDLoader/ModLoader) from the game folder first. INSTALL.txt in the zip has the same steps, plus how to uninstall.

Fixed

  • Items in a car go with the car. When another player took over your car, the things lying in it or stored in it (food, jerry cans, lamps…) stayed yours, both games pushed them around, and the car could be flung and wrecked. Now whoever drives the car takes over what is in it, and something the other player picks up in your car comes back to you when they let go. Things stored in a moving car no longer show a few metres behind it on the other players' screens.
  • Cars keep their parts. A car that went far away and came back could be missing wheels, doors, the hood or the engine on another player's screen, and the save kept it that way. Parts bolted to a car now always come back with it. Older saves are repaired when they load: parts that were left behind come back onto their car. Parts that really came off stay where they fell and can be bolted back by hand.
  • Buildings one player sees and another doesn't: your draw-distance setting decides how far away buildings appear, so with different settings a building a few km away can be on one screen only. If a building is missing for one player right next to it, the host's log now names it and where it is: press Page Down and send the report.

Example mods

Unchanged: Head Unit 0.2.0 and Car Trailer 0.1.1 (same files as with 0.68.0).

TLD RevaMP 0.68.0

@Normal99 Normal99 released this 15 Oct 22:39

Rabbits are back and shared between players, trailers brake with the car that tows them, optional driving assists, and a bigger Head Unit update.

Everyone must update. Players on different versions can't join each other (the game tells you).

New

  • Rabbits are back, and everyone sees the same ones: where they run, when they attack and bite, their sounds and size. One player's game runs each rabbit; bites hit whoever they hit, players included. Rabbits never appear right next to another player.
  • Trailer brakes. A hitched trailer brakes with its tow car's brake pedal and handbrake; the run key brakes the trailers alone, with their brake lights.
  • Driving assists (off by default, Settings > Revamp > Trailers and driving): trailer sway reduction, roll correction and traction control.
  • More to find: the car trailer now turns up among the game's vehicles at bus stops and buildings (with Car Trailer installed), and Head Units are found a little less often than radios.

Example mods

  • Head Unit 0.2.0: search YouTube from the + ADD box (links still work), search results readable from the seat, each player's own video volume, the main road in its own colour on NAV, and videos converted so they also play on Steam's own Proton. Joiners with an older Head Unit are offered 0.2.0 by the host.
  • Car Trailer 0.1.1: found at bus stops and buildings like the game's other vehicles.

Reports

If something looks wrong, press Page Down right away to save a report (BepInEx\tldrevamp-feedback). If you turned on Settings > Revamp > Debugging > "Send my reports to the host", the host gets a copy too.

Tested between two PCs over the Steam relay.

Known:

  • A building missing for one player while its contents are there: we couldn't make this happen with two copies of the same game version; a player with a different game version is announced in chat when they join. If you see it, press Page Down right away.

TLD RevaMP 0.67.2

Choose a tag to compare

@Normal99 Normal99 released this 15 Oct 18:36

Trailers that tow and park properly, the IFA drives straight, and Head Unit plays videos without crashing.

Windows

  1. Download TLD-RevaMP-0.67.2.zip below.
  2. Steam > right-click The Long Drive > Manage > Browse local files.
  3. Copy everything from the zip into that folder. winhttp.dll must sit next to TheLongDrive.exe.
  4. Start the game. The overlay in the top left shows "TLD Revamp 0.67.2".

Linux / Steam Deck (Proton): same as Windows, then add this to Steam > The Long Drive > Properties > General > Launch options:

WINEDLLOVERRIDES="winhttp=n,b" %command%

Fixed

  • The IFA drives as it should: its four driven wheels fought each other (the game gives it wheels far too light for its weight); now they turn together.
  • The game's car trailer no longer pulls the tow car's hitch down: it put about half its weight on the ball, now at most 12%.
  • A towed trailer and the car on it no longer jump about a metre on other players' screens when the tow car sets off: the tow car, its trailers and what they carry are now shown at the same moment.
  • A parked trailer that isn't hitched no longer rolls away on a slope (an idea from Long Haul Overhaul, see the credits in the README).

Example mods

  • Head Unit 0.1.1: switching videos no longer crashes the game under Proton, a unit that was taken out and replaced plays again, and Spotify albums load again. On Valve's own Proton (no video decoder) the screen now says the video can't be shown, and that player no longer skips everyone's queue; GE-Proton plays the videos. Joiners with 0.1.0 are offered 0.1.1 by the host.
  • Car Trailer 0.1.0: unchanged.

TLD RevaMP 0.67.1

Choose a tag to compare

@Normal99 Normal99 released this 15 Oct 10:30

The host notices impossible teleports and speeds, the question to download the host's mods no longer disappears when you join from inside a world, and dedicated servers get a settings file, autosaves and per-player saves.

New

  • The host notices cheating movement. If a player or their car moves farther or faster than is possible (teleporting themselves, for example), the host sees one line in its chat and it is written to the log. Nobody is kicked or blocked. Teleport requests the host accepted (/tpa) don't count.
  • Dedicated servers: a [Server] section in BepInEx\config\tldrevamp.core.cfg with the port, a password, the player limit, teleport requests on or off and their cooldown, and how often the world saves (every 5 minutes by default). Players' own things are kept for them on a dedicated server too, as on a normal host.

Fixed

  • Downloading the host's mods answered "no" by itself when you joined from inside a world with the pause menu closed. The question now opens the pause menu, so you see it.

The example mods are unchanged: Head Unit 0.1.0 and Car Trailer 0.1.0 (attached again here).
