Install

Requirements

  • GNOME 50 or newer
  • A Wayland session (GNOME has moved away from X11)

Install from a release

  1. Go to the Releases page and download the latest plaid@plyply99.zip.
  2. Open a terminal in your Downloads folder and run:
gnome-extensions install plaid@plyply99.zip
  1. Log out and back in. Plaid is now active.

If you ever need to force it: log out, log in, and you're set — no further steps needed.

Update

Plaid updates itself automatically (the Auto Update setting in General is on by default). When a new release is out, Plaid installs it silently and a notification tells you to log out and back in to load it.

To update manually, or if you turned Auto Update off:

  • Download the new zip from the Releases page and run the install command again — it replaces the old version. Then log out and back in.

Uninstall

gnome-extensions uninstall plaid@plyply99

Then log out and back in.

Adjusting settings

Open the Extensions app (or gnome-extensions-app), find Plaid, and open its settings. Everything is explained in the Layouts & Settings page.
