Chisel shades neighbouring surfaces smoothly where they meet at a small angle, so curved shapes such as cylinders and spheres are shaded smoothly while sharp corners stay sharp.
The angle is the model's Normal Smoothing Angle (0 to 180 degrees, 45 by default): surfaces that meet at less than this angle are smoothed across their shared edge.
