Energy Dashboard
Home Assistant’s Energy dashboard tracks water after calibration. In 0.3.0, guided dial readings provide an estimated absolute Meter reading, the recommended source once available.
| Entity | Use for Energy? | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
sensor.taggle_123456_meter_reading |
Recommended after guided calibration | Estimated absolute dial reading from factor, offset and unwrapped counter. Withheld when the absolute estimate is ambiguous. |
sensor.taggle_123456_total_litres |
Alternative for a manual factor without an absolute reading | Adds newly recovered usage intervals at the factor active when each is first processed. |
meter_count |
No | Pulses, not volume. |
today_litres, last_hour_litres
|
No | Daily/hourly values, not cumulative consumption. |
| Neighbourhood values | No | Group comparisons, not your consumption. |
Both eligible sensors have unit L, device class water and state class total_increasing. IDs use fictional 123456; copy your actual entity ID. Meter reading discovery appears only once an absolute estimate exists; usage litres can become available earlier.
- Open Settings → Dashboards → Energy → Water and add a water source.
- Choose Meter reading (
sensor.taggle_123456_meter_reading, with your actual ID). - Optionally enter a price, then Save. Allow an hour or two for statistics.
Home Assistant records changes from a statistics baseline. A large initial meter reading does not import lifetime consumption or recreate earlier hourly history. Check the estimate against your physical dial periodically; this is experimental, not billing-grade measurement.
If migrating, replace the existing water source instead of counting both sensors for the same supply. Existing statistics are not automatically rewritten into the new entity’s history. Calibration corrections or resets can change or temporarily remove the absolute estimate; review Energy statistics when changing its source or calibration. Do not assume continuity across these changes.
total_litres adds each newly recovered interval using the litres per pulse active when it is first processed. Previously stored intervals are not recalculated or backfilled. A later frame can still recover a recent earlier interval, even after calibration; that differs from importing historical data. Hourly/daily litre displays use the current factor.
Only unrecovered intervals are omitted from observed usage; a later frame can recover one missed transmission. Guided calibration can resolve some missing-slot wraps from dial readings without recreating missing hourly usage. It withholds an ambiguous absolute reading and asks for more evidence.
Back up private receiver state, including dial readings and the solution: include the add-on’s data in HA OS backups, or stop the Docker receiver and copy data together with config.json. Deleting state loses the baseline and calibration and does not repair reception.
