Is my area covered?

Warning

A Taggle meter in your area does not mean this receiver will work. So far only one transmitter, in Gladstone, QLD, has been confirmed, at the default 922.2 MHz setting. Other areas may use different radio channels, other Taggle generations, or encrypted messages.

Quick check

  1. Search your council or water utility's website for "smart water meter", "digital meter" or "Taggle".
  2. Look at your water bill or online portal. Hourly usage graphs or leak alerts are useful clues. They don't prove it's Taggle, though. Other brands and mobile-network meters offer these too.
  3. Open your meter box and look for a Taggle label (how to do it safely).
  4. If you're unsure, phone your council and ask whether your property has a Taggle transmitter.

Before buying, confirm Taggle at your property and check the label for NB-IoT. A portal or a matching appearance is not proof. After installation, a reception test must establish whether your own configured transmitter supplies usable pulses; the scan checks decoded messages near the supported channel, not all Taggle frequencies.

Reported working

Council State Transmitter Result
Gladstone Regional Council QLD White cylindrical, cable-connected Taggle tag; no model number on the label Working: 18-byte clear frames, hourly, 922.2 MHz centre, RTL-SDR Blog V4. Exactly one unit tested.

This is one field report. It doesn't confirm every meter in Gladstone, or anywhere else. Please report your result, whether it worked or not.

Publicly announced deployments

Taggle has said it works with over 45 councils and water utilities, and 75 across Australia in a 2025 announcement. It doesn't publish a full list.

The table below lists public announcements only. It is not complete. Some entries are pilots, partial rollouts or older plans, and rollouts change over time. Being on this list does not mean ha-taggle works there.

Why might it not work in a "Taggle area"?

  • Different channel. Taggle's V200HT datasheet allows 915–928 MHz or 928–933 MHz. ha-taggle listens near 922 MHz only. It doesn't sweep every channel.
  • Encryption. Taggle's SP3C datasheet says its transmissions use AES-128 encryption. ha-taggle can see an encrypted meter's ID and signal strength, but not its usage, and it won't try to decrypt it.
  • Mobile-network (NB-IoT) meters. Some newer Taggle products use NB-IoT, a mobile-phone-network radio. Taggle's product list includes NB-IoT versions such as the Q400, EDMI WP20 and NB3D. ha-taggle can't receive these at all.

Encryption research notes (November 2026)

Central Coast Council NSW’s MyWater page says the meter data is “transmitted as an encrypted radio signal” — quoted from a search excerpt; page blocked automated access. This describes that program, not every Taggle installation.

Taggle’s Telemetry Devices page says the Parakeet “includes AES encryption”. For these encrypted deployments, expect IDs only (plus signal diagnostics) if ha-taggle can receive a supported frame; usage is unavailable. These statements do not establish channel or frame compatibility, so even ID reception is not guaranteed.

Tip

Find your meter first, then buy hardware. If your label says NB-IoT, save your money.
