Installation
Every download is self-contained — the .NET runtime is bundled, so nothing needs installing first. Grab the file for your platform from the latest release.
| Platform | File | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Linux x86_64 | PCEdit-<version>-<build>.x86_64.AppImage |
Bundles .NET and ICU — runs on any distro |
| Windows x64 | PCEdit-<version>-win-x64.zip |
Unzip, run PCEdit.exe. Unsigned → SmartScreen prompt |
| macOS (Apple Silicon) | PCEdit-<version>-macos-arm64.zip |
Unsigned .app → right-click Open on first launch |
| macOS (Intel) | PCEdit-<version>-macos-x64.zip |
Same; also runs on Apple Silicon under Rosetta |
SHA256SUMS.txt is attached to every release if you want to verify the download.
Note
The macOS builds are untested — the maintainer has no Mac. They build and are published, but nobody has confirmed them in anger. Reports welcome.
The file name carries the release version and a build number — e.g. PCEdit-1.5.0-16.x86_64.AppImage.
chmod +x PCEdit-*.AppImage
./PCEdit-*.AppImage-
No FUSE on your distro? Either install it (
libfuse2on Debian/Ubuntu,fuseelsewhere) or run without it:./PCEdit-*.AppImage --appimage-extract-and-run -
Runtime libraries. A desktop install already has what the app needs:
libX11,libICE,libSM,fontconfig,libGL. Bare container/WSL rootfs images often lacklibICE/libSM, and Avalonia loads those at runtime — install them if the app exits with aDllNotFoundException. -
ICU is bundled since v1.2.1, so PCEdit starts even on distros with no system
libicu(openSUSE Tumbleweed, minimal images). That is why the AppImage is about 56.6 MB rather than 43.0 MB. -
CJK menus (Chinese / Japanese / Korean) rely on the system font fallback — install your distro's Noto CJK package (
fonts-noto-cjk,google-noto-sans-cjk-fonts,noto-sans-cjk-fonts) if text shows as empty boxes.
Unzip anywhere and run PCEdit.exe. There is no installer.
The build is not code-signed, so Windows shows "Windows protected your PC" on first run — choose More info → Run anyway.
Unzip and move PCEdit.app to /Applications (or anywhere). The bundle is not signed or
notarised, so Gatekeeper quarantines it. On first launch, right-click the app and choose
Open, or clear the quarantine flag:
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/PCEdit.appMinimum macOS version is 11.0.
Requires the .NET 10 SDK (the repo pins the 10.0.4xx
feature band in global.json).
git clone https://github.com/Valkerran/PCEdit.git
cd PCEdit
dotnet run --project PCEdit.Desktop/PCEdit.Desktop.csprojSee Building & Packaging to produce the distributable artifacts yourself.
