Worlds and Planets
Since the interplanetary update, one save can span several planets — Prime, Humble, Toxicity, Aqualis, Selenea, the Skeo moon (2.102), and so on. PCEdit shows which world something belongs to wherever it can work that out.
| Page | What you get |
|---|---|
| Overview | One terraforming card per planet in the save, and each player's current planet |
| Inventories | A World filter — only on a save with more than one world |
| Teleport | The destination world, and landmarks labelled with the planet they sit on |
On a single-planet save the world controls are hidden entirely; there is nothing to choose between.
The save stores a planet two different ways: as a name (planetId, e.g. Prime) on players,
terraforming entries and the metadata, and as an integer hash on placed world objects. PCEdit
bridges the two — the hash is Unity's GetStableHashCode of the name — and can therefore place most
things on a planet:
- Player and equipment inventories — from their owner's current planet.
- Containers — from the placed object that owns them.
- Everything else — drones, vehicles, rockets, unplaced buffers, and anything with no owner. These have nothing to derive a world from and group under Unknown world.
Unknown world is not an error and not a broken inventory. It just means the save does not say, so PCEdit will not guess. Those inventories are still listed under All worlds, and editing them works exactly the same.
An X/Y/Z position only means something on the planet it was recorded on. The same numbers on another world are an arbitrary point, quite possibly outside the map — which is why Teleport refills the coordinates from the destination world's arrival point when you change worlds.
PlanetHash.Of(planetId) (in PCEdit.SaveFileHandler) is the hash function; IPlanetIndex /
PlanetIndex (in PCEdit.App.Core) does the resolving and lists the known worlds. See
Save File Format and App Core.
