Help Statistics

Codex edited this page Oct 15, 2026 · 2 revisions

This page is generated from docs/aide/en/: it is also the admin’s online help (“Help” menu). Edit it in the repository, not here.

The Statistics page (sidebar) measures traffic on the public site, anonymously: no cookie, no outside service, no IP address kept.

What the page shows

Choose the period: 30 days, 3 months or 12 months (by month).

  • Visitors: the distinct visitors of each day, added up over the period. One person who comes back on three days counts three times.
  • Page views: home, series, perspectives, about, rights, and opened photos.
  • Photos opened full size: each time a photo is opened in the viewer (pinch zoom is not counted).
  • On phones: the share of visitors coming from a phone or tablet.
  • The trend (“+12 %”) compares with the previous period of the same length.
  • Traffic: bars for page views, a line for visitors; hover over a bar for details, or open View the data for the table.
  • Most viewed photos, Pages, Sources: the name of the site visitors come from (instagram.com, google.fr…) or “Direct”.
  • Shares: shares in the period by channel (WhatsApp, Facebook, Bluesky, X, Pinterest, Email, link copied, Instagram post opened, phone share menu, QR scanned), and the most shared photos. One number per photo, per channel and per day, nothing about the visitor. On a phone, the phone’s share menu does not say which app was chosen.
  • Countries: a world map with one bubble per country (its area follows the number of visitors; on hover, “France · 124 visitors”), and the list of the top 10. The country is the one passed on by Cloudflare: the site does not work it out and keeps no address. Nothing more precise than the country. “Unknown country”: Cloudflare did not give it. Countries are counted from the October 2026 update onwards.

Elsewhere in the admin

  • Photo library, a photo’s inspector: its views over 30 days, its rank, a small line chart.
  • A photo’s page: the same “Audience” section.
  • Today: today’s visitors and the photo of the moment (the most opened over 30 days).

What is not counted

  • Your own visits while you are signed in to the admin.
  • Robots: search engines, link previews from social networks and messaging apps, monitoring tools.
  • Visitors who refuse tracking: the “Do Not Track” or “Global Privacy Control” setting of their browser.
  • Pages not found and browser prefetches.

Privacy

  • A visitor is recognised for the day only, by a fingerprint computed from their address and browser, with a key drawn at random each day. This fingerprint stays in memory and is forgotten at midnight: it is impossible to follow someone from one day to the next.
  • The database only holds daily counters, deleted automatically after 25 months.
  • This is the framework within which the CNIL exempts audience measurement from consent: no cookie banner is needed. The public “Usage rights” page informs visitors of this.

After a server restart during the day, visitors who already came that day may be counted a second time.
