Every run pays embers, win or lose:
- Waves: each cleared wave pays 3 embers, plus 1 more for every 4 waves (wave 4 pays 4, wave 8 pays 5 and so on). Waves past 40, if you keep going after winning, pay ×0.25, and so do bosses snuffed and XP and mastery earned past wave 40.
- Bosses: 5 embers for every boss snuffed (Trophy hunter adds more).
- Victory: 30 embers for winning a campaign.
The total is multiplied by:

Spend embers on camp upgrades, lantern unlocks and skins.
Every run also earns XP: 4 per wave cleared (plus 1 more every 4 waves), 20 per boss and 150 for a win. XP gets +20% per depth, the same difficulty multiplier as embers, and the Night school, Long night and Daring camp upgrades.
XP raises your player level (level 2 needs 70 XP and each level after needs 10 more than the last, about 55,000 XP for all 100) and your Season Pass tier at the same time. Levels go up to 100.

At level 100, open Prestige on the title screen to start the climb again. You can prestige up to 10 times.

- Prestige I unlocks Oblivion, a difficulty above Nightmare: ×3.1 foe health, ×1.24 speed, 5 starting lives and ×3.5 embers and XP.
- Every prestige level adds +20% embers and XP from runs, so each climb goes faster (up to +200% at Prestige X).
- Every prestige opens 2 Prestige skins in the Prestige shop (20 in all). See Skins.
- Level-up moonstones and first-clear moonstones are paid again on every climb.
- Lanterns prestige separately: see Mastery prestige.
Moonstones are the premium currency. You earn them from:
- Level ups: 10 per level, 25 on every 5th level.
- First clears: 20 the first time you win each world (Pathfinder adds more).
- The Season Pass: every 5th tier, plus bonus tiers.
- The event pass: small amounts in its filler tiers.
- Redeem codes.
Spend them in the Shop on skins, Season lanterns, ember packs and the premium pass.
Season 1: The Hollow Moon. A 100-tier pass that tells the story of the hollow moon, filled by the same XP as your player level. It has a free track and a premium track, which costs 150 moonstones and unlocks every premium tier you've already reached. Tier 1 costs 120 XP and each tier after costs 8 more, up to 912 for tier 100 (51,600 XP in all).
- Most tiers pay embers. Every 5th tier pays moonstones.
- The premium track has the three Season lanterns: Moonwell (tier 1), Hollow Bell (tier 50) and Eclipse (tier 100).
- If you already own a skin from the pass, you get 50 embers instead.

Tiers not listed pay embers (or 5 and 12 moonstones on every 5th tier).
Each event has a free 25-tier pass paid for with candy, which you only earn in that event's world: more for every wave you clear and for every boss. Most tiers give Event skins; the rest give small amounts of moonstones.

- Featured: six items that change every hour, at 25% off. They include shop-only skins you can't get anywhere else.
- Premium skins: Mythic, Celestial and Exotic skins for moonstones.
- Season lanterns: Moonwell, Hollow Bell and Eclipse for moonstones, if you haven't got them from the pass.
- Ember packs: 10 moonstones → 80 embers, 25 moonstones → 220 embers, 60 moonstones → 600 embers.
- Event shop (during events): an Event skin for every lantern (75 moonstones each), the event's menu theme (50), or the whole set as a bundle (450).
Every lantern has its own set of skins. Equip them on the Lanterns page. Skins are cosmetic only.

Higher rarities look louder: Legendaries get a golden halo, then rune rings, light rays, orbiting sparkles and color-cycling shots as you go up. Event skins add their own touches, like circling bats and a blood-moon glow. A lantern at mastery 100 also gets a Radiant look. Founder's gold has its own double golden halo.
Prestige skins are the rarest: turning sigils, tilted orbits whose orbs pass in front of and behind the lantern, a floating crown, light rays and wings at the highest levels. They flare with a nova when you tap them or when they fire, and previews lean toward your pointer. Two open with each prestige level and cost 350 to 980 moonstones.

Enter codes in Settings → Redeem a code. Codes can give moonstones, embers or exclusive skins. Each code works once per player: your save remembers it, and so does your device, so resetting or prestiging can't redeem it again.
A secret code unlocks the Founders Edition: Founder's gold for every lantern, the Season 1 premium pass (while the season runs) and a Founders Edition title under the logo. Hide or show the title in Settings.
