| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Music | Volume slider and mute. Every world and every menu theme has its own track. |
| Sound effects | Volume slider and mute for menu and lantern sounds. |
| Screen layout | Auto, Portrait or Landscape. Auto uses landscape when your screen is wider than it is tall. You can switch at any time, even mid-run. |
| Menu theme | Change your camp's look and music. |
| Check for updates | See if a newer version is out. |
| Permanent storage | Ask your browser to never clear your save (where supported). |
| Online backup | Back your progress up online, automatically. Optional. |
| Save as file / Import from file | Save your progress as a file, or load one. |
| Redeem a code | Enter a reward code. |
| Reset all progress | Start over completely. Tap twice to confirm. This can't be undone. |
Music and sound pause when you leave the app. The pause menu during a run also has quick Sound and Music toggles.
- Your progress saves automatically on your device.
- Runs save after every wave. You can keep one campaign run, one Endless run and one event run at a time, and continue them from the Play page. If you quit mid-wave, you replay that wave.
- Moving devices: go to Settings → Save as file, send the file to the other device, then there tap Import from file and pick it.
- Keep an export code somewhere safe as a backup, especially if your browser clears site data.
Lanternfall is a Progressive Web App: install it once and it runs full screen, works offline and updates itself.
| Device | How |
|---|---|
| iPhone / iPad (Safari) | Open the game, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. |
| Android (Chrome) | Open the game, then tap Install app (or menu ⋮ → Add to Home screen). |
| Desktop (Chrome / Edge) | Open the game and click the install icon in the address bar. |
The installed app follows your device's rotation, so turning your phone sideways switches to landscape (on Auto).
The game checks for updates on its own. When one is ready you'll be asked to reload. Major updates play a short cinematic the first time you open them, and you can replay any of them from the Updates page.
| Problem | Try this |
|---|---|
| No sound or music | Tap anywhere first (browsers only allow audio after a tap), then check the sliders and mute buttons in Settings, and your device's silent switch. |
| The board is sideways when I don't want it | Settings → Screen layout → Portrait or Landscape. |
| I'm on an old version | Settings → Check for updates, then reload. On iPhone, close and reopen the app. |
| My progress is gone | Import your last export code. If you never exported, the save may have been cleared with your browser's site data. |
| Lost a run mid-wave | Continue from the Play page. You replay the wave you were on. |
Online backup is off until you turn it on. Nothing is sent before that.
- Turn on backup backs your progress up automatically after each wave and run. No account or email is needed.
- If this device and your online save are different, the game shows both (level, embers, best wave, time) and you choose which to keep.
- Sign in with Google links your backup to your Google account. Sign in with the same account on another device to get your progress there. The game only receives your email address and a private ID, never your Google password.
- Sign out stops backing up and leaves your progress on this device. Delete my cloud data removes your online save and sign-in for good.
- Your progress always saves on the device first, so the game works offline. Backup catches up when you are online again.
- Redeem codes are checked online, so redeeming needs an internet connection.
