How worlds unlock

You start with the Surface level. Win a campaign run on your deepest unlocked world to open the next depth. There are 21 worlds in all: the Surface level plus depths 1–20.

Deeper worlds are harder (foes have +35% health and +4% speed per depth) but pay more: +25% embers and +20% XP per depth. Clearing a world for the first time also pays 20 moonstones.

On the Play page, worlds are grouped into collections you can collapse:

  • The Ember Road (depths 1–10): Marsh, ice, ash and ruin on the long road from the first forest.
  • The Deep Nights (depths 11–20): Bogs, belfries and hives under a dying moon.

Modes

Campaign

The main mode. Pick a world and survive 40 waves to win. Winning opens the next depth and pays a victory bonus. After wave 40 you choose: end the run and collect your rewards, or keep going until your lives run out. The win counts either way, but every wave, boss and snuff after wave 40 pays ×0.25 embers, XP and mastery.

Endless

No last wave, and no world to pick: each run starts in a random world you've unlocked, and each world lasts 5 waves: its own foes walk the trail and its boss arrives on the 5th wave. Then the run shifts to another world you've unlocked, with its own look and twist, while your trail and lanterns stay put. Switching worlds doesn't change foe health or embers: the whole run scales as if you were halfway down to your deepest world (half your deepest depth, rounded). Endless keeps going until you run out of lives, and your best wave is saved. Bosses keep growing in number after wave 50.

Events

Limited-time events add their own world to the Play page. Event worlds are endless, harder, and have their own foes and boss. They pay candy, which you spend on that event's free pass.

Hollow Harvest (Halloween 2026): Harvest night. Foes are 35% tougher and 8% faster, and only the harvest’s own creatures walk the trail. Its foes are Vampire bats, Jacks, Ghosts and Skeletons, with the Pumpkin King every 5th wave.

Difficulty

Set it with the slider on the Play page.

Difficulty Foe health Foe speed Starting lives Embers and XP
Easy ×0.7 ×0.92 20 ×0.6
Normal ×1 ×1 15 ×1
Hard ×1.45 ×1.08 12 ×1.5
Nightmare ×2.1 ×1.16 8 ×2.25
Oblivion (after your first prestige) ×3.1 ×1.24 5 ×3.5

Starting lives assume no camp upgrades. Hearthstones and other upgrades add more.
