Parts

Applies to Motorcade 0.0.0-beta.1 for Minecraft 1.21.1 (NeoForge).

A vehicle is one frame, one engine and four wheels. Every combination produces measurably different handling, so the interesting part is which parts you mix.

How the stats work

Four numbers come out of your parts:

Stat What it governs
Acceleration How fast you pick up speed.
Comfortable speed The point past which acceleration drops to a quarter. Shown on screen multiplied by 20, as m/s.
Handling How sharply you turn.
Grip How much you resist sliding, and how much traction you keep at speed.

They combine as:

acceleration     = (1 − (frameWeight + wheelSize) / 2) + (2 × torque) / 3
comfortableSpeed = ((speed × 3) + (speed × frameWeight × 2) + (speed × wheelSize)) / 5.7
handling         = ((1 − wheelSize) + (1 − frameWeight) + 2) / 4
grip             = (wheelGrip + frameWeight) / 2

Shift-hover any part to see its numbers.

The wheel also sets the vehicle's step-up height, so bigger wheels let you climb onto blocks a low car cannot.

Frames — 33 of them

Motorcars

Frame Weight Notes
Wooden Motorcar 0.30 The lightest car.
Copper Motorcar 0.40
Steel Motorcar 0.475
Golden Motorcar 0.525
Bejeweled Motorcar 0.555 The heaviest motorcar.

Standard — 16 colours

Sixteen dye-coloured frames (standard_white … standard_black), all weight 0.60. They are the best-handling frames in the game, so a Standard frame makes even a heavy car feel nimble. But Standard wheels are small, so a Standard build has the lowest step-up height at 0.60 blocks.

Rickshaws

Frame Weight Notes
Amethyst Rickshaw 0.20
Quartz Rickshaw 0.25
Prismarine Rickshaw 0.14 The lightest frame there is.
Echo Rickshaw 0.10 The lightest frame. Pair it with a Diamond engine and it has the highest acceleration of any build.

Tractors

red, yellow, green and blue, all weight 0.90. The heaviest and by far the grippiest frames. A tractor will hold a line at speed, but it is slow to pick up and turns lazily.

Novelty

Frame Weight Notes
Shopping Cart 0.25 The best handling in the game, and the slowest.
c_arr 0.85 The widest frame at 1.5 blocks. Creative/prefab only, no recipe.
Pineapple 0.75 Three ingredients.

Wheels — 10 of them

Wheel Size Grip Notes
Standard 0.60 0.50 Smallest step-up height.
Steel 0.69 0.40
Off-Road 1.10 0.80 Best all-round off-road choice.
Tractor 1.05 0.69 Built for the tractor frames.
Carriage 1.05 0.20 The worst grip of the big wheels.
Plated 1.05 0.33
Street 1.05 0.50
Gilded 1.05 0.45
Bejeweled 1.05 0.475

Wheel size is also step-up height, so the 1.05 and 1.10 wheels let you climb a full block where a Standard wheel cannot. This is the single biggest practical difference between wheel types.

Engines — 7 of them

Engine Torque Speed Notes
Stone 0.30 0.58 Slowest.
Copper 0.375 0.68
Iron 0.50 0.75 The sensible mid-tier choice.
Gold 0.80 0.75 High torque.
Diamond 0.95 0.85 The best craftable engine.
Creative 1.00 1.00 Creative/prefab only, no recipe.

Each engine has its own looping engine note, so you can hear what you are driving.

Some combinations worth trying

These are computed from the values above:

Build Acceleration Comfortable speed Handling Grip Step-up
Echo Rickshaw + Diamond engine 1.06 12.7 m/s 0.71 0.30 1.05
Bejeweled Motorcar + Diamond engine 0.83 15.4 m/s 0.60 0.52 1.05
Golden Motorcar + Gold engine 0.75 13.4 m/s 0.61 0.49 1.05
Shopping Cart + Stone engine 0.73 8.5 m/s 0.77 0.33 0.69
c_arr + Off-Road wheels + Diamond engine 0.66 17.3 m/s 0.51 0.83 1.10
Tractor + Tractor wheels + Copper engine 0.28 14.0 m/s 0.51 0.80 1.05

Read that as: rickshaws for acceleration, c_arr for top speed and grip, the Shopping Cart for turning, tractors for holding a line.

For pack authors

Frames, wheels and engines are data-pack registries with public codecs, so new ones can be added without any code. They must go in a data pack, not a resource pack. The client command /motorcadec dump writes all the built-in ones out as data-pack JSON to <game-dir>/motorcade_dump/ as a starting point.
