Roads and Terrain

Applies to Motorcade 0.0.0-beta.1 for Minecraft 1.21.1 (NeoForge).

Motorcade is at its best on purpose-built roads. Every block here is craftable in survival.

Slopes

Block Recipe Output
Slope iron ingot, glow ink sac, slime ball 6
Steep Slope iron ingot, glow ink sac, slime ball 3

A Slope covers half a block of height, a Steep Slope a full block — in the same footprint. So you can build a continuous gradient, or a ramp that climbs a full block without stepping, which is what lets a car with low step-up height get up onto a road.

Dash Panels

iron ingot, glow ink sac, redstone, blaze powder → 2 panels.

A thin, non-solid strip that sits on the ground. Driving over an unpowered one boosts you hard — far more than anything else in the mod — and also shoves and briefly speeds up any mob or vehicle in the boostables list. Power it with redstone to make it inert.

There are two more variants, a Slope with a Dash Panel and a Steep Slope with a Dash Panel, but they have no recipe: you get them by breaking the block, which drops both the panel and the slope.

Off-road tiles

Three layers of thickness, in four materials. Each recipe is a one-row pattern of the material with gravel in the middle.

Block Recipe Output
Grass Off-Road short grass, coarse dirt, short grass 6
Dirt Off-Road dirt, gravel, dirt 6
Sand Off-Road sand, gravel, sand 6
Snow Off-Road snow block, gravel, snow block 6

Off-road tiles cap your speed according to how many layers are stacked — one layer is mild, three is the hardest cap in the mod. The cap only applies when you are not boosting, and the tint and dust particles follow the block's colour.

This is what makes tractors worth their poor acceleration: grippy on tarmac, hopeless in deep off-road.

Autopilot Signs

iron ingot, redstone, emerald, iron bars → 6 signs.

Place them to mark a route for a car carrying the Autopilot front attachment, which steers itself by reading them. They take a rotation, so they can face left, right, the floor or the ceiling, and they light up faintly.

Give one redstone power and the car will brake and burn out for it — a working stop sign. Omit one and the car honks, getting more impatient, until it gives up.

Launch Gel

slime ball, quartz, slime ball → 3.

A sticky, non-solid block that gives a solid boost and throws you upward as you cross it. Good for jumps; not a substitute for a ramp.

The pressure plate

The Automobile Pressure Plate is a heavy weighted plate that gives a redstone signal of 15 when an automobile or one of its invisible hitboxes is on it. Useful for triggers and gates. It has no crafting recipe, so it is currently creative-only.

Putting a road together

A route that actually feels good:

  1. Lay off-road tiles as the base surface where the terrain is rough.
  2. Run slopes and steep slopes to keep the grade gentle.
  3. Drop dash panels on the straight sections for the big speed.
  4. Mark the route with autopilot signs if you want the car to drive itself.
  5. Put launch gel at the spots where you want a jump.

For the car itself, this is the split that works: a tractor frame with tractor wheels for grip on off-road, or an Echo Rickshaw with a Diamond engine if you mostly want acceleration and cornering on road.
