Compatibility

Supported

  • Paper 1.21.11 is the required server software and version. This is not a suggestion, several plugins in this setup depend on APIs that are only available on this version.
  • Java 21 or newer.
  • Both newer and older Minecraft client versions can connect, since ViaVersion and ViaBackwards are included.

Purpur

Purpur is supported. Purpur is built as a drop in replacement for Paper, using the same plugin API and the same threading model, it only adds extra configuration options on top. None of the plugins in this setup have any reason to behave differently on Purpur than on Paper.

Folia

Folia is not supported, and this is not a "we have not tested it yet" situation, it is a real blocker in one specific dependency.

FastAsyncWorldEdit, used to build and edit the arena, does not have stable Folia support. The versions distributed through the usual channels are not compatible with Folia. Community experimental builds exist, but they only target an older Minecraft version, are not officially maintained, and have known broken features. WorldGuard's own core plugin has only just added experimental Folia support in its latest build, which means it is not yet something to rely on for a paid product.

This does not affect gameplay day to day, since FastAsyncWorldEdit is only needed for building and editing the map, not for normal server operation once the arena already exists. But because WorldGuard region protection is needed constantly during normal play, and its Folia support is still experimental, running this setup on Folia is not something we can currently stand behind. If you want to experiment with it anyway, do so on a test server first, and expect region protection specifically to be the most likely thing to behave unexpectedly.

Not Supported

  • Bedrock Edition, through Geyser or similar, is not included or tested with this setup. Several features, including the text display signage and the NPC skin system, rely on Java Edition specific mechanics and may not display correctly on Bedrock clients.
  • Spigot or Bukkit without Paper is not supported. This setup relies on Paper specific features throughout, particularly for world building and entity display handling.

Version Changes

If you update any plugin included in this setup to a newer version than what was shipped, test thoroughly before rolling it out to players. Plugin updates can change internal file formats or default settings, and a setting this wiki describes may shift or be renamed in a future plugin update. When in doubt, check that specific plugin's own changelog before assuming something is broken.
