Troubleshooting and FAQ

Check this page before asking for support. Most first-day issues with this setup fall into one of the categories below.

"I'm testing as OP and something protection related seems broken or inconsistent"

This is the single most common source of confusion with this setup, and it comes up in more than one place.

OP status, and any rank carrying LuckPerms' * wildcard permission such as Owner or Manager, silently grants every permission on the server. This includes permissions that are supposed to be restricted, like WorldGuard's region bypass and ajLeaderboards' update blocking permission.

Always test player facing features and protection using an account that is not OP and does not have a wildcard rank. If you test as OP, you may see things working when they should not, or appearing broken when they are actually working exactly as intended.

"The leaderboard shows --- instead of a real value"

This means no data has been cached for that player, not that something is broken. The most common cause is the ajleaderboards.dontupdate permission being present on the test account, usually through OP or a wildcard rank.

"The podium NPC shows an error or a default skin for a rank position"

If position 2 or 3 shows an error, check whether enough players have actually joined the server since the leaderboard board was created. ajLeaderboards only tracks players who joined after the board existed. This is expected behavior on a small or brand new server, not a bug.

Also confirm you are using the dedicated _skin% placeholder for the NPC's skin field, not the _name% placeholder. See Leaderboards and Podium NPCs for details.

"A spawn sign or text panel is facing the wrong direction"

Text and item display entities need to be removed and re-summoned with a different rotation value, they cannot simply be turned by hand. See Spawn Signage.

"I can break blocks I shouldn't be able to"

Almost always the same OP or wildcard rank issue described at the top of this page. Test with a non-privileged account before assuming region protection is broken.

"Everyone can trade and use shops, is that intended?"

Yes. Trading and shop access is available from the Member rank up. This is core gameplay, not a paid perk, restricting it to donors would work against the server's own economy.

General FAQ

Is this fully editable? Yes. Every config file, rank, permission, and NPC can be changed. Nothing is obfuscated.

What Minecraft version does this require? Paper 1.21.11. See Compatibility for full details.

Do I need to install anything else? No. Every plugin required is already included.

Can I rename or re-theme the ranks? Yes, through LuckPerms. See Ranks and Permissions.

Will this work alongside plugins I already have installed? As long as you do not have a second plugin doing the same job as one already included, for example a second economy or punishment plugin, it should integrate cleanly. Running two plugins that both try to control the same system, like two separate ban plugins, is likely to cause conflicts no matter what setup you are using.

Do I have to rebrand this before launch? Yes. This is required, not optional. See Rebranding Guide.
