Spawn Signage
Spawn includes three signage panels built from Minecraft's text display and item display entities, not signs or holograms from a separate plugin. This page explains how they work and how to edit them.
- Rules panel, listing general conduct rules.
- Welcome panel, greeting new players.
- Tutorial panel, explaining the basics of getting started.
Each panel is made of two entities:
- A
text_displayentity holding the actual text. - An
item_displayentity floating above it, showing a themed icon.
Text display entities store their content directly in the entity's data, there is no external config file to edit. To change the wording, you need to remove the existing display and summon a new one with updated text.
Every panel entity is tagged exit_display. To remove one, stand near it and run:
/kill @e[tag=exit_display,distance=..2]
The distance=..2 keeps this scoped to whatever is within 2 blocks of you, so you do not accidentally clear a different panel elsewhere on the map. If two panels are close together, get closer to only the one you want to remove before running this.
Do not use /killall entities for this. That command is much broader and can remove things you did not intend to touch.
Use /summon minecraft:text_display with a text component. If you are not comfortable writing the raw command yourself, ask in the CogSparks Discord for help adjusting specific wording, see Support.
Each panel's rotation is set using a rotation value, not by physically turning to face a direction when you place it. If a panel is facing the wrong way after being placed, it needs to be re-summoned with a different rotation value, simply moving the entity does not change which direction it faces.
If you are placing a panel from a command block rather than standing at the location yourself, remember that command blocks do not have a meaningful facing direction to inherit. Use a fixed rotation value and adjust it after seeing how it looks in game, rather than expecting it to automatically face the right way.
The panels are set to a fully transparent background by default, so they sit cleanly over the environment instead of showing a dark box behind the text. This looks best when the panel has something solid behind it, like a wall or dark block, since transparent text over a bright or busy background, like open sky, is harder to read no matter how the text itself is styled.
If you find a panel hard to read after moving it to a new spot, the fix is usually to place something solid behind it, not to change the text color again.
All signage uses the same red based palette as the rest of the server's branding. If you rebrand your server's colors, update the signage to match so the whole server feels consistent, rather than leaving spawn in the original red scheme while the rest of the server uses a different color identity.
