Staff Punishment System

Punishments on this server run through LibertyBans, not through Essentials. This matters, because it is what allows ban and mute limits to actually be enforced per rank, rather than relying on staff remembering the rules on their own.

How Duration Limits Work

LibertyBans uses a base permission for each action, plus a separate permission that controls how long an action can last. For example:

libertybans.ban
libertybans.ban.dur.30d
libertybans.ban.dur.perm

A staff member with libertybans.ban and libertybans.ban.dur.30d, but without libertybans.ban.dur.perm, can issue a ban up to 30 days long. If they try to type a longer duration, or try to issue a permanent ban, LibertyBans blocks it. This is enforced by the plugin itself, it is not just a permission that unlocks the command and leaves the duration up to trust.

The same pattern applies to mutes and warnings.

This structure exists so that newer or less experienced staff cannot hand out a punishment more severe than they should be trusted with, without a Senior Moderator or Administrator needing to babysit every action.

Commands

• /warn <player> <reason>
• /mute <player> [duration] <reason>
• /kick <player> <reason>
• /ban <player> [duration] <reason>

If no duration is given to /mute or /ban, LibertyBans treats it as a request for a permanent punishment. A staff member without the .dur.perm permission for that action will be blocked automatically, they do not need to remember to always type a duration.

Adjusting These Limits

If you want to change how long a specific rank can mute or ban for, you do not need to touch LibertyBans' config. Just change that rank's duration permission in LuckPerms, for example swapping libertybans.ban.dur.30d for libertybans.ban.dur.14d on Senior Moderator. See Ranks and Permissions for where these live.
