A free, open source video editor built as a direct alternative to CapCut, aimed at people who want CapCut's editing workflow without watermarks, subscriptions, or a required account.
Concat runs entirely on the user's own machine: a native Rust engine handles editing and rendering, paired with a native desktop interface, so no project data or footage leaves the device. It covers the core CapCut-style toolkit — multi-track timelines, split/trim/merge, transitions, speed control, titles and styled text, and reusable templates — plus local, on-device text-to-speech, auto-captioning, and voice filters that require no cloud service or account. The project was originally published under the name WolfCut and has since been renamed to Concat, with the GitHub repository and all releases now under the new name.
Concat is placed in Tools / Assess, at the outer edge of the ring. The project is very new — first published in August 2026 — and is explicitly in alpha, pre-release status. Windows support is described as tested, macOS ships unsigned binaries requiring a manual quarantine-removal step, and Linux, mobile, and Raspberry Pi support are marked as work-in-progress or untested. Despite its youth it has already attracted over 1,200 stars and a Trendshift trending listing, suggesting active interest in a local, no-account CapCut alternative.
It is licensed AGPL-3.0-or-later, with a carve-out that lets third-party plugins built on its API keep their own license, and a separate commercial license available for use cases that want to avoid AGPL's network-copyleft obligations. Given the alpha status and unstable platform support, it sits at Assess with no first-person use yet — worth revisiting once a stable release lands.
