Multiple Notes per Item

Enhanced Notes lets you create and manage multiple independent notes under a single Zotero library item. This is especially useful for separating reading notes, vocabulary lists, experimental observations, or task trackers related to the same source.

File Mapping

When syncing notes to Markdown:

  • Individual Files: Each note under a Zotero item is exported as its own separate .md file, rather than combining them into a single long document.
  • Clash Prevention: If multiple notes under the same item share the same name (or generate conflicting filenames based on your templates), Zotero will prompt you to assign a short unique identifier (ID) to distinguish the files on disk and prevent overwrites.
  • Organization: Your templates can use note fields (like note.key or note.title) to dynamically partition and name files.
