Managing Apps

The Mac.apk window lists every Android app you've installed. Right-click an app there for Get Info…, Uninstall and more.

Don't drag apps to the Trash

Warning

An app's saved data lives inside the app (see How Apps Are Installed). Dragging it to the Trash deletes your saves too, and nothing warns you, because as far as macOS knows you just deleted an app. Uninstall from the Mac.apk window instead.

Uninstalling

Uninstalling from the Mac.apk window tells you how much saved data the app has, sets it aside, and then removes the app. If you reinstall the same version later, your saves come back. If you'd rather delete the saves too, tick the checkbox in the confirmation.

Saves are kept per version. Reinstalling the exact version you removed restores them. Installing a different version starts fresh, and the old saves wait for their own version.

Updating an app

  • From a store: F-Droid and Aurora update apps the way they do on a phone, and the app keeps its data.
  • From an APK: right-click the app, choose Get Info…, then Update from APK…, and pick the newer APK.

Starting an app over

Get Info… → Reset app… deletes the app's saved data so it starts as if newly installed. There's no undo.

After updating Mac.apk

Your apps and their saves are untouched. Each app's next launch can be slow while Mac.apk prepares it for the new version.
