Moving from 14.x

Version 15.0 is a full redo. The biggest change: the server now runs in the background, so it no longer stops when you log out.

Your world comes with you:

  1. The snap updates itself to 15.0 (or run sudo snap refresh mc-server-installer).
  2. Open the menu: mc-server-installer.
  3. It finds your world from the old version and offers to move it. Choose Move it.

Your world, whitelist, operators and settings come along. The original files stay where they were (~/snap/mc-server-installer/), as a backup.

Then press 1 to download the latest server and 4 to start it - or let the menu's status line tell you what's next.

What else changed

  • No more tmux or screen: just close the menu.
  • Daily backups, and a backup before every update and restore.
  • New screens: Players (p), Backups (b), Settings (s), Console (c).
  • The numbered options 1 to 17 are still there, in the same order.
  • Only the person who set the server up can change it (see How It Works).
  • RCON is switched off. The menu talks to the server in a safer way.
