Playing Together

At home

Everyone on the same home network (Wi-Fi or cable) can join using the address shown at the top of the menu.

Tip: give this computer a fixed address in your router's settings (often called a DHCP reservation). Otherwise the address can change, and the server your family saved in Minecraft stops working.

Friends outside your home

The server is a normal Minecraft server, so friends elsewhere can join too:

  1. In your router, forward TCP port 25565 to this computer's address (the one at the top of the menu). Every router does this differently; search for your router's model and "port forwarding".
  2. Find your public IP address (search the web for "what is my IP").
  3. Friends add that address in Minecraft.
  4. Turn the whitelist on (Settings), and add everyone who should play - family and friends - in Players and Operators. Then only people you added can join. Without it, anyone on the internet who finds your address could.

If it still doesn't work, your internet provider may share one public address between many customers (called CGNAT), which makes incoming connections impossible. Your provider can tell you, and sometimes switch it off.

If the computer runs a firewall (ufw), allow the game's port:

sudo ufw allow 25565/tcp

A guided setup for all of this is planned for a later version.
