Challenger Idol
The Challenger Idol is a giant, towering statue resembling a Creeper with a sword in its head. It stores a dreadful ancient power within, just waiting to be unleashed upon the world.
A single bound Challenger Idol can be found in the foyer of a trial chamber, in front of the fountain. It is placed on a pedestal of oxidized copper, with three locks. Each lock requires an ominous trial key to open, and all three must be unlocked in order for the Challenger Idol to become unbound. While bound, attempting to destroy the Challenger Idol will result in an electric shock affecting nearby players.
Once unbound, the Challenger Idol can be mined using a pickaxe and taken elsewhere.
While an unbound Challenger Idol is placed in the world, various effects will take place in a radius of a little over a thousand blocks of the idol. These effects modify mobs, granting them new abilities or providing them with powerful equipment. All effects are listed below.
- Zombies, Skeletons, and their variants will often spawn with armor with powerful enchantments, as well as one guaranteed curse.
- These monsters will drop 1-3 bottles o' enchanting on death, as well as extremely rarely... something special...
- Wither Skeletons will not spawn with multiple tiers of armor, only Netherite, which will never drop. However, they may drop a Netherite Upgrade smithing template, making it much more accessible.
- Skeletons and their variants have a high chance of spawning with a powerfully enchanted bow.
- Spiders and Cave Spiders are immune to fall damage entirely.
- Spiders may place multiple webs when attacking
- Endermen are slightly faster.
- Drowned may spawn on land during rain.
- These Drowned are more likely to wield Tridents, which during thunderstorms may be enchanted with Channeling.
- Charged Creepers may spawn naturally during thunderstorms.
- Various mobs may spawn one random effect from a set list, being Speed II, Strength II, Resistance II, Infested, or Oozing.
- Gallants will be able to spawn, but very rarely.
- The Challenger Idol was made to replace the poorly designed and integrated "Dread Mode", which was enabled via commands and had similar effects, but was far less interesting and much more awful.
- In development, Challenger Idols had a very different design, inspired by Totem Poles and originally even being made of gold rather than oxidized copper. This design is displayed below.
