Frequently Asked Questions

Does Critical Path change my factory?

No. It is read-only. It never builds, dismantles, reconfigures or moves anything. The only thing it adds to the world is a temporary map marker when you ask it to locate something, and CLEAR PINGS removes those.

Is it safe to remove?

Yes. It stores nothing in your save. Uninstalling leaves the save exactly as it was.

Does it cheat, or reveal things I have not unlocked?

It reports on your own factory and your own objectives. It will tell you that a recipe you need is not researched yet - which the game already tells you - but it does not reveal map contents, unexplored resources, or anything you could not see yourself.

Does it use AI?

No. The analysis is deterministic: a bounded scan of the world followed by a steady-state flow solve. The same save produces the same answer. AI tools were used during development, which is disclosed on the mod page, but nothing in the mod calls out to a model at runtime.

Does it work in multiplayer?

Yes. The host measures the factory and sends the report to you, so a joined client sees the full report, labelled as coming from the host. See Multiplayer.

Does it work on dedicated servers?

Yes. Install it on the server as well as the clients.

Why does it say a rate is unknown instead of estimating?

Because a wrong number gets acted on and a blank gets investigated. See Why It Says "Unknown".

Why is a part I have not built shown in blue rather than red?

Red is reserved for something that is actually broken. Not having built a thing yet is the normal state of an unfinished game, and marking it as a fault would mean the panel showed an alarm for the entire playthrough. See Reading the Panel.

Does it need any other mod?

No. It is standalone.

Does it support modded recipes and modded objectives?

Yes. Recipes, items and unlocks are read from the game at runtime rather than from a built-in table, so modded content is measured the same way as vanilla.

Why is the plan grouped into steps with several items?

Everything within a step is independent, so it can be built in any order. Steps are dependency depth, not a to-do list ordering. See PLAN.
