House Bank

image

LiFePO₄ across 10 × 12V WattCycle 100Ah bluetooth (internal BMS) batteries. 9 are in the main house bank, one is dedicated to the Electroscan macerator ("electropooper").

Three different capacity numbers are all valid for different things:

  • House bank nominal: ~10.8 kWh (9 × 100Ah × 12V)

  • Total system nominal: ~12 kWh (includes the 10th battery dedicated to the Electroscan)

  • Actual realized: ~11.5 kWh per BMSes when fully charged — not all batteries reach a true 100Ah. This is the right figure for power-budget math (see Jimmy-Shower).

  • Main house bank is in starboard salon (relocated from lazarette — see Interior for rationale & layout)

  • Main house battery box is King StarBoard

Engine Electrical

A single AGM starter battery in a battery box under the engine bed (Interstate 27M-XHD, 100Ah).

Charging System

Alternator

  • Balmar 120A with MC-618 external regulator
  • Serpentine belt conversion on the Yanmar 4JH2E
  • Currently only feeds the starter battery (oversized for a single AGM)
  • Planned addition of a Victron DC-DC charger to feed the house bank.

Battery Monitoring — SG200 SmartShunt

  • SG200 Battery Monitor Kit (Balmar)

    • SmartShunt: 350A continuous, 12V-48V compatible
    • Color Display (2.0625" cutout, IP65 front-rated)
    • Bluetooth Gateway (SG2-0300) for mobile app access
    • SmartLink network supports up to 32 devices
  • MC-618 Regulator (upgrade from MC-614)

    • External regulator for Balmar alternators
    • Configurable charge profiles for LiFePO₄, AGM, flooded, gel
    • Temperature compensation
  • Configuration notes:

    • Chemistry: LiFePO₄ (code 05)
    • SmartShunt mounted in dry location, close to battery bank
    • All loads/sources must terminate at or before the "CABLE" end of shunt
    • Aux voltage leads (AUX-1, AUX-2) for starter battery monitoring
    • Fuse required on 60" positive power lead (within 6" of battery)
