Export
To export, click Export (or press Ctrl+E) in the editor, then choose where to save. Pick the format, quality, resolution and aspect ratio in the editor header first. Exports run in the background, so you can keep editing or switch to another take.
| Format | Codec | Best for | Transparent background |
|---|---|---|---|
| MP4 | H.264 (4:4:4) | YouTube, LinkedIn, X/Twitter, websites, sharing | — |
| MOV | ProRes 4444 XQ, lossless | Professional editing (Premiere Pro, Final Cut, DaVinci Resolve) | ✅ |
| WebM | VP9 (4:4:4) | Web pages, smaller files | — |
| WebM (transparent) | VP9 with alpha | Transparent overlays for web pages, OBS, Chrome/Edge — the easiest transparent format to preview | ✅ |
| MKV | FFV1, lossless | Archiving, lossless intermediates | ✅ |
| PNG sequence | One PNG per frame | Compositing in After Effects / Fusion | ✅ |
A transparent format only keeps transparency the background already has — you need both:
- Set Background → Transparent. The preview shows a checkerboard behind the areas that will be see-through.
- Choose a transparent format: MOV, WebM (transparent), MKV or PNG sequence. (Turning the background transparent switches you to MOV automatically.)
- Click Export.
ZoomArc helps you avoid the two common mistakes:
- Pick a transparent format while the background is still solid → the header shows "Background isn't transparent" with a one-click Make transparent button.
- Export a transparent background as MP4 or regular WebM → ZoomArc asks first, because those formats would turn the background black.
Checking the result: Windows' built-in video players often show a MOV's transparent areas as black, even though the file is transparent. Check it in DaVinci Resolve, Premiere Pro, After Effects or OBS — or export WebM (transparent) and open it in Chrome.
In Frame mode the recording grows to fill the canvas while zoomed, so there's no transparent margin during zooms. Use Video mode to keep the margin throughout.
| Preset | Use it for |
|---|---|
| Lossless (default) | Maximum quality, largest files |
| High | Visually lossless, much smaller |
| Balanced | Everyday sharing |
| Smaller file | Email, chat, quick previews |
MOV and MKV are always lossless.
- Resolution: Source resolution, 1080p, 1440p or 4K UHD — named after the short edge, so 1080p in 9:16 is 1080×1920.
- Aspect ratio: Source, 21:9, 16:9, 16:10, 3:2, 4:3, 5:4, 1:1, 4:5, 3:4, 2:3, 10:16, 9:16.
| Destination | Suggested settings |
|---|---|
| YouTube / website | 16:9, 1080p or 4K, MP4 High |
| YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, TikTok | 9:16, 1080p, MP4 High |
| LinkedIn / X feed | 1:1 or 4:5, 1080p, MP4 Balanced |
| Video editor (Premiere, Resolve) | Source, MOV (ProRes 4444) |
Exports are rendered frame by frame at 60 fps with exactly the same engine as the preview — zooms, cursor (including custom cursor images), click highlights, backgrounds, text, shapes, images, webcam and microphone audio.
