Elder law

Anton Vasilescu edited this page May 9, 2023 · 1 revision

Elder law is an area of law that addresses the legal needs of elderly people, including retirement benefits, estate planning, health care, health management, and other issues. Elder law varies from state to state and in some jurisdictions, like Florida, elder law is an area of professional specialization and certification. A lawyer's expertise in the practice of elder and special needs law is confirmed by passing the exam and becoming Certified Elder Law Attorney (CELA). Elder law is an expansion of the traditional trust and estates practice, and its practice stems from the Older American Act of 1965 (OAA).
