Release list
📢 Version v0.2.6 - MobileGlues texture compression, gamepad UI and wider device support
RimDroid 0.2.6 (beta)
⚠️ RimDroid is still in beta. Device compatibility and performance vary, especially with large colonies, DLC, and heavy mod lists.
💡 The first launch after updating may take longer than usual while RimDroid refreshes its bundled libraries.
🆕 What's new
✅ RimWorld controller UI - RimDroid now includes a small built-in mod that automatically enables RimWorld's controller-oriented interface when launching with a physical gamepad. Gamepad mappings were also adjusted to match the in-game controls, and touch controls hide while a controller is connected.
✅ Huawei Kirin compatibility - RimWorld 1.6 can now start on Kirin devices.
✅ Texture compression now works with MobileGlues - Low and Ultra Low compression modes now actually reduce texture memory when using MobileGlues. This may also improve performance on memory-limited devices.
Technical
- Adreno 642L and similar GPUs are detected correctly.
- Added a targeted X-server compatibility fix for Android 11.
- Improved crash reports with persistent box64 fault information.
- Obsolete save-workaround files and unused audio binaries were removed. The APK is about 10 MB smaller.
Also in the app:
CJK fonts (Chinese / Japanese / Korean) - special RimDroidCJK mod.
Fix 0.2.6v2
This fix is intended for non‑Snapdragon devices where, after updating to 0.2.6 with the MobileGlues renderer, black textures started appearing.

Rimdroid is only a launcher.
To run the game, you still need the actual game files (Linux version), which you must obtain yourself - for example, by purchasing the game on Steam/GOG.
📢 Version v0.2.5 - MobileGlues: a second renderer added
RimDroid 0.2.5 (beta)
A quick note on expectations. Launching isn't the same as running smoothly. A big, mature colony with a dozen pawns, dozens of mods, and every DLC wants a flagship, ideally Snapdragon. A small one-pawn survival run can be fine even on a budget phone. It all comes down to your CPU (RimWorld + emulation) and your RAM.
⚠️ RimDroid is a beta and under active development. Things will break, devices differ wildly, and not everything works everywhere yet. We're improving it release by release.
💛 Thank you to all testers! Special thanks to FRANKI666 for making most of the tests!
🆕 What's new
✅ MobileGlues — a second renderer that doesn't use Vulkan at all (Settings → Video). If the game won't start for you, or the picture comes out broken on Zink (like on Samsung Exynos), try this one.
✅ Video settings redesigned — one crowded card became three separate ones: Video, Resolution and Compression.
✅ Clearer menu footer — the link icons are labelled, the donate icon is easier to recognise, and there's now a link to Zomdroid, our launcher for Project Zomboid.
Technical
Textures are re-packed into ETC2 for MobileGlues — the format every mobile GPU understands natively. On Mali this is what turns a black world into a normal one; on Snapdragon it also runs faster than the desktop format.
box64's sorting routine was replaced with the system one.
Bug reports now include the system's own process-exit history, so we can tell whether Android killed the app for memory or the app crashed by itself.
Also in the app:
CJK fonts (Chinese / Japanese / Korean) - special RimDroidCJK mod.

📢 Version v0.2.4 - FPS improvements, texture compression modes and 2 languages added
RimDroid 0.2.4 (beta)
A quick note on expectations. Launching isn't the same as running smoothly. A big, mature colony with a dozen pawns, dozens of mods, and every DLC wants a flagship, ideally Snapdragon. A small one-pawn survival run can be fine even on a budget phone. It all comes down to your CPU (RimWorld + emulation) and your RAM.
⚠️ RimDroid is a beta and under active development. Things will break, devices differ wildly, and not everything works everywhere yet. We're improving it release by release.
💛 Thank you to all testers! Special thanks to @Spagles for contributing several fixes!
🆕 What's new
✅ Texture compression (Settings → Video) — three levels: No / Low / Ultra low. Shrinks textures to save memory and gain FPS — this is what lets several DLC load on phones where they simply wouldn't before. Colonists and animals always stay sharp; compression mostly touches plants and items. Rule of thumb: the weaker the phone, the more each level gives.
✅ Español y Português — the launcher now speaks Spanish and Portuguese, picked automatically from your phone's language.
✅ Esc button added to the default on-screen controls (left of Space).
✅ A cleaner launcher — settings reorganized into tidy cards (Video, Frame rate, Controls, Sound, Advanced), resolution and frame-rate are simple pick-one lists now, and instance actions live in a compact ⋮ menu.
Technical
Experimental: threaded rendering for RimWorld 1.5 — early tests show good FPS improvment, but stability isn't proven yet, so it's off by default. To try it, add RIMDROID_NO_GFX_DIRECT=1 to the extra launch variables (Advanced). If you get a black screen, just remove it. Feedback welcome.
Launch self-diagnostics: if graphics initialization ever hangs, the log now records exactly where - this lets us fix devices we don't own.
Texture compression ships with hidden diagnostic switches for hunting rare visual artifacts in the field.
Also in the app:
CJK fonts (Chinese / Japanese / Korean) - special RimDroidCJK mod.

📢 Version v0.2.3 - Steam Cloud cross-save, FPS limit and keyboard support.
RimDroid 0.2.3 (beta)
A quick note on expectations. Launching isn't the same as running smoothly. A big, mature colony with a dozen pawns, dozens of mods, and every DLC wants a flagship, ideally Snapdragon. A small one-pawn survival run can be fine even on a budget phone. It all comes down to your CPU (RimWorld + emulation) and your RAM.
💡 Note: the first launch after updating takes longer than usual — RimDroid re-extracts its libraries once. That's expected, let it finish.

🆕 What's new
✅ Steam Cloud saves — move saves between your PC and your phone through your own Steam account. Pull saves down, push them back up.

✅ On-screen keyboard input for 1.6 — you can finally type into the game (naming colonies, saves, animals). Latin (English) letters only for now. Supported only on RimWorld 1.6
✅ A keyboard toggle button (KB) was added to the default on-screen controls.
✅ Frame rate limit — cap (limit) the game at 30 or 60 FPS (Settings → Frame rate). A steady 30 usually feels better than a jumpy 45, and it frees CPU for the simulation, which can raise the actual game speed on weaker devices.

✅ Long-press on the object = right click — new tap gesture added.
✅ Fixed 1280×720 mode — a real 720p picture (with black margins), instead of stretching to your screen. Fewest pixels drawn, so it's also the fastest option.

✅ Bug report — one tap in the menu bundles your logs into an email draft.

✅ Update notification — a dot appears in the menu when a newer version is out.
✅ Background image in the controls editor — trace a screenshot while placing buttons.
Technical
- Steam download concurrency reduced (8 concurrent chunk downloads/decompressions → 4 downloads / 2 decompressions), plus largeHeap enabled — the old defaults could exhaust the Java heap on phones with a 256 MB memory cap mid-download, leaving a half-downloaded, unlaunchable game.
- Added NULL-resource guards in the graphics layer (libzfa) for weaker/older GPUs.
- Fixed the bundled guest library tripping Android's 16 KB page-alignment check.
Also in the app:
CJK fonts (Chinese / Japanese / Korean) - special RimDroidCJK mod.

📢 Version v0.2.2 - Newer Harmony mods support, FPS improved and cropped screen fixed!
RimDroid 0.2.2 (beta)
💡 For the best fps performance, we recommend a fresh install this time (uninstall the previous version first) — updating in place should still work, but a clean install avoids leftover files from older versions.
⚠️ RimDroid is a beta and under active development. Things will break, devices differ wildly, and not everything works everywhere yet. We're improving it release by release.
💛 Thank you to all testers!
🆕 What's new
Main features
✅ Fixed cropped screen on cutout devices — the game window could be squeezed inside the camera-cutout safe area on some phones, clipping the picture on both sides. Now the game always claims the full screen.
✅ New option: mirrored landscape — for gamepad cradles that hold the phone in the opposite orientation. Still a single fixed orientation, just flipped 180°. Per-instance toggle in Settings.
✅ Fixed some GOG repacks failing to load — a few community repacks were missing some game files; the installer now detects and reports this instead of silently producing a broken install.
✅ Stock Harmony now works — mods using recent Harmony versions (2.3+) previously failed to patch anything under emulation. Fixed at the root; you no longer need a special downgraded Harmony build for mods to work.
✅ Performance improvements — a batch of fixes under the hood (emulator stability, library handling) that should give a noticeable FPS boost for a lot of devices, especially non-Adreno GPUs.
Also in the app:
CJK fonts (Chinese / Japanese / Korean) - special RimDroidCJK mod.

📢 Version v0.2.1 - RimWorld 1.6 support, Saves fixed and Game sound fixed!
RimDroid 0.2.1 (beta)
UPDATE: better FPS 0.2.1v6 added.
💡 For the best experience, we recommend a fresh install this time (uninstall the previous version first) — updating in place should still work, but a clean install avoids leftover files from older versions.

🆕 What's new
Main features
✅ RimWorld 1.6 support — menu, gameplay, saving, sound, all working.
✅ Saves fixed — the actual cause of pawn/colonist save corruption was found and fixed, instead of patching around it per game build. Saves should now be reliable on 1.5 and 1.6 alike, no mod or extra step required. Please disable the old SaveFixesMod if it was used.
✅ Game sound fixed — no more generating a sound pack or flipping an audio switch. Sound (including DLC and mod audio) plays correctly out of the box.
✅ Install directly from a GOG installer — you can now add a zip that contains a GOG DRM‑free .sh installer.
✅ Under-the-hood performance & stability — fixed the root cause of a class of engine-level crashes (also responsible for the save corruption above), so the game no longer needs to run a reactive repair pass in the background — smoother, more stable emulation overall.
Also in the app:
- CJK fonts (Chinese / Japanese / Korean) - special RimDroidCJK mod.
- Steam in-app downloader
- Compatibility mod - turn it on if you can't launch the game in the regular way.

📢 Version v0.1.8 - Sound, better FPS, compatibility mode
RimDroid 0.1.8 (beta)
⚠️ RimDroid is a beta and under active development. Things will break, devices differ wildly, and not everything works everywhere yet. We're improving it release by release.
💛 Thank you
This release exists because of you. To everyone who installed build after build, hit a black screen or a frozen menu, and still took the time to send us logs - thank you. Those logs are not noise; they are exactly what let us find and fix things we could never reproduce on our own devices.
In particular: the new Compatibility mode below was born directly from tester logs. For many people whose game previously showed only a black screen or hung forever on the loading menu, the game now starts. That's your work as much as ours. 🙏
🆕 What's new
Main features
⚡ Performance (FPS)
box64 now builds with -O1 optimizations. On a high-end device (Snapdragon 8 Elite / Adreno 830) we measured 10-20 FPS up from before. Gains vary by device.
🔊 Game sound
RimDroid can now generate game audio on your device, from your own copy of RimWorld - sound effects, ambience, and clean menu music. Go to Settings → Sound → Install game sound, then use the Game sound toggle to turn it on or off.
Note: with sound on, the game takes a little longer to load.
🔧 Compatibility mode
A new toggle under Settings → Advanced. If your game won't start (black screen, or stuck on the loading dots / menu), turn this on - it changes how the translator handles memory and floating-point so the game can boot on devices that otherwise couldn't.
It's a temporary workaround, not a full fix - it may not work on every device, or may work only partially. See Troubleshooting below.
Also in this release
- 🌏 CJK fonts (Chinese / Japanese / Korean) — see the dedicated note below.
- 📥 Steam in-app downloader — fixed connection drops during sign-in. Authorization used to fail when the connection was interrupted mid-login; that's now handled.
- 🎨 Settings redesign — cleaner card layout (Video / Controls / Sound / Advanced).
🌏 For Chinese / Japanese / Korean players
RimWorld has the Chinese, Japanese, and Korean translations built in - but the in-game text rendered blank, because the game doesn't ship the fonts for those languages.
Why? The PC version doesn't ship them either - on Windows it simply borrows the system fonts. Under RimDroid there is no such system-font path available to the game, so we provide the glyphs through a mod instead.
We built a companion font mod, RimDroidCJK, that adds the missing characters at runtime (it does not modify your game files). Install it separately and Chinese, Japanese, and Korean text will display correctly.
👉 Download: RimDroidCJK mod
Note: shared Han characters use the Simplified-Chinese glyph form, so a few Japanese characters look slightly "Chinese" — fully readable, just not typographically perfect per language.
🛠️ Troubleshooting
🔊 Sound mod shows "incompatible" (red), or you hear screeching
Re-run Install game sound once more, then restart the game. This is a one-time RimWorld mod-list caching quirk; on the second pass it's picked up correctly.
💾 Colonists disappearing from saves
As a temporary measure, install the RimDroidSaveFix mod — it works around a save-corruption bug we're still chasing at the emulator level. This is especially worth having if you play with Compatibility mode on. Depends on Harmony mod.

Thanks again for testing, reporting, and sticking with us. More fixes - including the deeper bug behind the save corruption — are in progress. 💛
📢 Version v0.1.7 - Gamepad support, haptic feedback buttons, better low-RAM support
RimDroid 0.1.7 — Beta
✅ Device compatibility (so far — it's device-by-device, not by GPU brand)
Compatibility right now depends on the specific phone (GPU + driver + kernel), not just "Adreno vs Mali" — some Mali phones run great, others don't yet. We're still mapping it out, so treat this as a living list.
Works:
- Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra (Adreno 830)
- Lenovo Legion Y700 (Adreno 730)
- Realme P4x (Mali)
Loads, but hits the colonists/crash bug (a reboot often helps — see below):
- Poco X7 (Mali) — loads, but colonists can come up missing
- Poco F5 (Adreno) — boots now (startup black screen fixed), but can still crash
Doesn't start yet:
- Infinix Note 50s 5G (Mali-G615) and similar — need the software renderer we're still building
🆕 What's new in 0.1.7 (beta)
✅ Physical gamepad support — sticks, buttons, triggers, with auto-hide of the
on-screen controls when a controller connects, plus a button remapper for
controllers with swapped buttons.
✅ Display resolution fix — no more tiny / doubled / stretched picture on some devices.
✅ Haptic feedback — buttons can vibrate now; per-instance on/off toggle.
✅ Hide/show controls — a "V" button to toggle the on-screen overlay on the fly.
✅ Steadier on low-RAM phones — the game's memory now scales to your device, cutting
out-of-memory crashes on weaker hardware.
(Plus everything from earlier: mods via Harmony 2.2.2, on-screen controls editor,
Steam in-app downloads, per-instance settings.)
🔄 Temporary workaround for some issues, like missing colonists
Several of these problems depend on how the phone's memory happens to be laid out at launch, and a phone restart reshuffles it. If the game crashes or colonists go missing:
- Restart your phone, then launch again. Maybe the save was corrupted - make a new save.
- If it still fails, restart once more (a second reboot sometimes does it).
It's a dice-roll, not a cure — but it often lands the game in a working state.
🛠️ What we're working on next
- Fixing the core emulation bug behind the crashes & save corruption (the #1 issue above).
- In-game sound.
🙏 Help us
If the game doesn't work for you, please turn on Debug, reproduce, then Export logs and send them to 210478@mail.ru — your logs are exactly how we widen device support. Tell us your phone model + GPU.

📢 Version v0.1.5 - In-app downloads, new look, recommended driver
RimDroid v0.1.5
✨ New
In-app Steam downloads — get the game, DLC, and Workshop mods straight from Steam inside the launcher (no Termux). Sign in with your own Steam account (approve on the Steam Mobile app); mods can also be fetched without login via a browser handoff.
Instances as cards — each game install is its own card with its own Play button and a gear menu (Settings / Delete).
Per-instance settings — renderer, Vulkan driver, debug, and controls are now set per instance, so different colonies can run different setups.
Dedicated "Install mod / DLC" page — pick a ZIP, choose the instance, install (auto-strips wrapper folders).
Custom Vulkan driver import (menu → Custom Vulkan driver) — load your own Turnip/Vulkan driver (a .so or an AdrenoTools .zip).
"Recommended driver" + auto-detect — detects your GPU and picks the matching driver; new instances are auto-set to the recommended one.
Drag to pan the map with a finger (in addition to the on-screen camera stick).
New look — Material 3 theme, green/silver branding, night mode (System / Light / Dark), and instance/page artwork.
🛠 Improved
More bundled Adreno drivers: Turnip for Adreno 8xx / 7xx / 6xx, including a legacy 6xx build for Snapdragon 685 / Adreno 610.
Logs now start with a launch-config header (renderer, driver, settings) so a shared log is self-describing.
Saves & control-layout export / import, plus export logs.
🧪 Experimental
MediaTek/Mali fix attempt — a memory-model change aimed at the save-corruption bug (vanishing colonists) and some crashes on MediaTek/Cortex devices. Unverified — please report whether saves keep your colonists.
Some weak/older GPUs (e.g. Mali-G57 / Helio G99) may still show a black screen.
No sound yet (FMOD); no on-screen keyboard; occasional black screen on launch (try a different driver).
UPDATE: A bug in this release caused a black or frozen screen. The issue has been fixed — the file has been updated. If you've dowloaded the buggy one, reinstall the app.
