Hardware frames

What to put on the wall. You need one screen per frame, and you can have as many frames as you like.

Recommended

Get the EE03 kit, a frame, and a USB-C power supply. Or buy one ready-made from Wells Workshop.

The kits

Featherframe's firmware runs on two kits from Seeed Studio. Each is an e-paper screen, a driver board, and a XIAO ESP32-S3 Plus.

Both are portrait, 3:4, and look like paper: no glow, readable in sunlight, and no power used to keep a picture up.

The EE03 changes quickly and quietly, so it keeps up with every new species. The EE02's 15-second change is slow enough that it's better on the collage, which changes a few times a day.

The frame

• A photo frame: I really like this one from Homeforia.
• Any frame deep enough for the driver board works. Leave the buttons where you can reach them.
• If you use a paper mat over the screen, set the mat's size under the frame's Advanced settings so the picture lines up with it. See Settings.

Power

• USB-C (recommended): any phone charger. New pictures show up right away.
• Battery (not included with a kit): a protected single-cell (1S) LiPo with a JST-PH connector. A 2000 mAh cell lasts weeks to months. See Battery.

Other screens

You don't need a kit. These show the same pictures:

Other e-paper screens

Any e-paper screen with 16 shades of gray or Spectra 6 color can be ported. The server already renders for any size. See Porting to another panel.
