Every setting in your Featherframe webapp: each frame's own, then the household settings, which apply to every frame. The webapp has two columns.

  • Left: a preview of each frame, its tools, and a history of detections.
  • Right: your Frames, then your Settings.

Frames

Each frame is one line in the Frames list: a kit, a TRMNL, a tablet. Each line shows:

  • A status dot: green (checking in on time), amber (late), red (battery almost empty), or gray (not seen yet, or a tablet with its browser page closed).
  • The frame's name, what it shows, and when that changes: a frame showing individual detections says when quiet hours switch it to the collage, and a frame showing the collage says how often it gets a new one.
  • Its battery, Wi-Fi signal, and when it last checked in.

Click a frame to change its settings. Each frame shows only the settings it supports.

Setting What it does
Name The frame's name. If blank, Featherframe uses the kind of screen.
Content Individual detections: the most recent species. Collage: every species heard today.
Rotation Which way up the frame hangs.
Power USB or Battery. Kits only. See Battery.
Update interval How often the frame checks for a new picture, from 1 minute to 1 day. Kits on Battery only: a kit on USB gets new pictures right away. On a frame showing the collage, it follows the collage's Update interval.
Screen size Only for frames that don't report their size.
Advanced The mat's size and position, a Mat guide line to help you set them, and Reset to defaults. Kits only. Both kits start at the 4% inset their mats need. Set it to 0 only on a frame with no mat.
Details Information the frame reports: IP address, firmware, screen, board, and ID.

When a new frame asks to connect, it appears at the top of the list with Add and Ignore. Ignored frames move to the bottom of the list.

Settings

These settings apply to every frame. Each line shows what is set; click it to change it, then click Save. Switches save as soon as you flip them.

General

Your email, the webapp's password (self-hosted only), and automatic firmware updates. On Featherframe Cloud you sign in with a link sent to your email, so there's no password.

Detection source

BirdWeather, BirdNET-Pi, BirdNET-Go, or a local database (self-hosted only). The dot is green when detections are arriving, amber when nothing has been heard for a while, and red when the source can't be reached or isn't set up yet. See Detection sources.

To hide a species, see Hide a species.

Illustrations

  • Region: which book of illustrations to use first: Audubon's North America, or Gould's Europe, Australia or Asia. The other books fill in species the first one doesn't have.
  • Whether to generate an AI illustration for species that have none.

Collage

  • Update interval: how often frames showing the collage get a new one during the day. Shown once a frame shows the collage.
  • The most species it shows. Leave blank for no limit.
  • Quiet hours: sunset to sunrise unless you change them, or times you choose, such as 10:00 PM → 6:00 AM. No new pictures arrive during quiet hours, and frames showing individual detections switch to the day's collage. Shown once a frame shows individual detections.
  • Whether to generate it with AI, and its Tree branch: Seasonal, Daily weather, or Bare.

AI image generation

Optional. See AI illustrations.

Generated illustrations and collages

Generated illustrations lists every AI illustration, with backup and restore. Generated collages keeps each day's collage from the last week, to download.
