Data Sources

Data Sources

Data Sources allow supported UniPanels panels to display information retrieved from blocks in the world.

The exact values available depend on what the selected block exposes.

Which Panels Use Sources?

Basic Panel

The Basic Panel automatically uses the block directly behind it as its source.

No probe or manual linking is required.

Advanced Panel

The Advanced Panel can use up to four linked source slots.

Sources are linked using the Data Display Probe.

Decorative Panels

Color Panels and Texture Panels do not use block data sources.

Sources Page

Open:

Sources

to manage the source configuration for the current panel.

The page displays the available source slots and their current state.

Depending on the panel type, you can:

  • select a source slot;
  • add a source;
  • change an existing source;
  • remove a source;
  • inspect source information;
  • configure which value should be used.

Source Slots

Advanced Panels support up to:

4 source slots

Each slot is independent.

A slot may contain a different source block and can be configured separately from the others.

The selected slot determines which source is being inspected or configured.

Linking a Source

Remote sources for an Advanced Panel are linked using the Data Display Probe.

The maximum linking range is:

32 blocks

Once a source has been linked, it becomes available from the corresponding source slot.

Source Details

Selecting a source displays information about it in the details area.

Depending on the available data, this may include:

  • source name;
  • source/provider type;
  • block position;
  • source slot;
  • other existing source information.

Configuring Source Data

Use Configure Source to open the Source Data Browser for the selected slot.

The browser allows you to inspect the values UniPanels discovers from that block.

See Source Data Categories.

Choosing a Value

The Source Data Browser displays discovered values and their metadata.

Selecting a value can show information such as:

  • name;
  • category;
  • key/path;
  • type;
  • current value.

Use Use This Value to assign the selected value using the existing source configuration.

The selected value remains associated with the current source slot.

Searching Source Data

The Source Data Browser includes search.

Search results keep their category context, making it easier to distinguish similarly named values from different systems.

For example:

  • AE2 > Stored Energy
  • Block Entity > Energy
  • NBT > energy

may all represent different data paths.

Nested Categories

Source values are organized into categories instead of being shown as one large flat list.

Typical categories include:

  • Block State
  • Block Entity
  • Capabilities
  • NBT

Additional categories may appear when supported compatibility mods are installed.

Multiple Sources

An Advanced Panel can combine information from several linked blocks.

For example:

  • Slot 1 — energy storage
  • Slot 2 — fluid tank
  • Slot 3 — item storage
  • Slot 4 — machine status

Each slot can be configured independently.

Refresh Behavior

Data-driven panels use configurable refresh behavior.

This includes:

  • refresh interval;
  • Normal mode;
  • Eco mode.

See Refresh Rate and Eco Mode.

Data Availability

UniPanels can only display information that the source block exposes through a supported system.

If a value does not appear in the Source Data Browser, the block may not expose that information in a form UniPanels currently supports.

Optional Integrations

Additional source data may become available when supported mods are installed.

Current optional integrations include:

  • Applied Energistics 2
  • Mekanism
  • Ars Nouveau

See Compatibility.
