Source Data Categories

Source Data Categories

UniPanels organizes discovered source values into categories so large amounts of block data remain manageable.

The exact categories available depend on the selected source block and on which compatibility mods are installed.

Block State

The Block State category contains properties exposed directly by the Minecraft block state.

Possible examples include:

  • facing direction;
  • powered state;
  • active state;
  • open/closed state;
  • other block-state properties.

The exact values depend on the block.

Block Entity

The Block Entity category contains values exposed by the block entity behind the selected block.

Possible data may include:

  • stored values;
  • machine state;
  • progress values;
  • inventories;
  • internal status information.

Availability depends entirely on what the block exposes.

Capabilities

UniPanels can discover supported capability data from compatible blocks.

Possible categories include:

  • item storage;
  • fluid storage;
  • energy storage.

Capability values are only shown when the selected source exposes them.

NBT

Supported NBT values can also appear in the Source Data Browser.

NBT data may contain nested structures.

UniPanels preserves this hierarchy instead of flattening everything into one long list.

Example:

NBT
└── inventory
    ├── size
    └── items

Mod-Specific Categories

Additional categories can appear when supported mods are installed.

Current optional integrations include:

  • Applied Energistics 2
  • Mekanism
  • Ars Nouveau

These integrations can expose additional source values beyond the generic discovery system.

See Compatibility.

Nested Categories

Some data sources contain multiple levels of nested information.

The Source Data Browser allows you to move through these nested categories without creating extra navigation-history entries.

This keeps the browser-style Back and Forward controls reserved for actual page navigation.

Search

The Source Data Browser includes a search field.

Searching can match values from different categories while preserving their category context.

For example:

AE2 > Stored Energy
Block Entity > Energy Stored
NBT > energy

This helps distinguish values that may have similar names but come from different systems.

Selected Value Details

Selecting a value displays more information in the details pane.

Depending on what the source exposes, this can include:

  • display name;
  • category;
  • source key or path;
  • value type;
  • current value.

Using a Value

Once you find the value you want, select:

Use This Value

The selected value is assigned through the existing source configuration for the current source slot.

Data Availability

Not every block exposes the same information.

If a value is missing, that does not necessarily indicate a bug. The source block may simply not expose that information through a system currently supported by UniPanels.

Generic vs Dedicated Integration

UniPanels can often discover useful information without a dedicated compatibility module through:

  • block states;
  • block entities;
  • capabilities;
  • supported NBT.

Dedicated integrations can provide additional structured values when available.
