Groups and Synchronized Scrolling

Groups and Synchronized Scrolling

Groups allow multiple Text and Icon Entries to move together as one synchronized scrolling composition.

They are useful when several separate entries should keep their spacing and alignment while scrolling across the panel.

Why Use Groups?

Without a group, each scrolling entry moves independently.

With a synchronized group:

  • all members use the same group scrolling state;
  • all members use the same group speed;
  • differently sized entries move by the same physical distance;
  • relative spacing between members is preserved.

This makes it possible to create compositions such as:

  • text followed by an icon;
  • several related status values;
  • labels and symbols that move together;
  • mixed Text and Icon layouts.

Creating a Group

Open the panel editor and select:

Groups → + New Group

A new group is created using the next available group ID.

Creating a group does not automatically enable scrolling.

Selecting a Group

The Groups page displays all existing groups.

Selecting a group shows:

  • its current members;
  • scrolling state;
  • scrolling speed;
  • available group actions.

The selected group can then be edited without leaving the Groups page.

Adding Members

Use + Add Member to add an existing Content Entry to the selected group.

Available members can include:

  • Text Entries;
  • Icon Entries.

An entry belongs to one group at a time.

If an entry is moved from one group to another, its membership is updated rather than duplicated.

Removing Members

Members can be removed from a group without deleting the entry itself.

Removing an entry from a group does not reset its normal entry configuration.

Settings such as:

  • size;
  • color;
  • alignment;
  • individual scroll state;
  • individual scroll speed;

remain stored.

Group Scrolling

Each group owns its own Scroll setting.

When group scrolling is enabled, every member of that group moves together.

Joining a group does not automatically turn scrolling on.

This prevents entries from unexpectedly starting to move simply because they were assigned to a group.

Group Speed

Each group has its own scrolling speed.

While an entry belongs to a group, the group's speed controls its scrolling movement.

All members receive the same physical movement even when their individual sizes differ.

Individual Settings

Text and Icon Entries still retain their own individual scrolling settings while grouped.

Those individual values are temporarily overridden by the group's settings.

If the entry leaves the group, its original individual scrolling behavior becomes active again.

Deleting a Group

Deleting a group:

  • removes the group settings;
  • clears group membership from its members;
  • keeps the actual Text and Icon Entries;
  • preserves each entry's individual configuration;
  • does not renumber unrelated groups.

Empty Groups

A group can exist without any members.

Empty groups are not automatically deleted.

This allows you to create a group first and add members later.

Managing Many Groups

The Groups workspace supports scrolling/paging so groups are not limited to only the first few IDs.

Existing group IDs remain stable and are not automatically renumbered.

Live Preview

The Groups page can use the UniPanels Live Preview.

This makes it easier to inspect how grouped entries behave together while adjusting:

  • membership;
  • scrolling;
  • speed.

Example

A group might contain:

  • a Text Entry: Power
  • an Icon Entry: Energy Cell
  • a Text Entry: 82%

When the group scrolls, all three entries move together while keeping their original spacing.

This allows separate configurable entries to behave like one visual object without requiring them to be merged into a special combined entry type.
