The values below describe the current version of the mod and may change in future balance updates.

Internal multiblock parts, temporary effect blocks and development markers are not included on this page.

Research furniture

Block Function
Greatwood Table Can be transformed into an Old Research Table by using Scribing Tools on it.
Double Table Uses items with matching aspects to decipher research scrolls.
Great Research Table Automatically completes Research Notes using Scribing Tools, experience, Cognitio essentia and a nearby Big Jar.
Deconstruction Table Converts items containing aspects into Knowledge Fragments.
Arcane Wand Workbench Crafts and modifies modular wands using the aspects stored inside them.
Arcane Wand Workbench Charger Recharges a wand placed in an Arcane Wand Workbench.
Wand Recharge Pedestal Holds and recharges wands, casters and other rechargeable thaumaturgic items.

Greatwood Table

Using Scribing Tools on a Greatwood Table transforms it into an Old Research Table.

The Scribing Tools are placed directly into the created Research Table.

Double Table

The Double Table is used to decipher unidentified research scrolls.

Property Value
Aspect-item slots 5
Research scroll slots 1
Paper slots 1

Place an unidentified research scroll, paper and items containing the required aspects into the table.

Each successful operation:

  • consumes one sheet of paper;
  • consumes matching aspect-bearing items;
  • reduces the aspects still required by the scroll.

When every required aspect has been supplied, the unidentified scroll becomes a completed research scroll.

Great Research Table

The Great Research Table automatically completes Research Notes from the built-in Old Research system.

It requires:

  • an incomplete Research Note;
  • Scribing Tools with remaining ink;
  • a nearby Big Jar containing at least one brain;
  • stored experience;
  • Cognitio essentia.
Property Value
Scribing Tool slots 1
Research Note slots 1
Base processing time at 100% efficiency 10 minutes
Resource stages 20
Total experience cost 20 XP
Total Cognitio cost 20 essentia
Total ink cost 20 uses
Cognitio search range 8 blocks
Maximum supported brains 6

More brains increase the research speed, while Research Notes containing more aspects reduce efficiency.

The table can use Cognitio stored inside the connected Big Jar or draw it from nearby essentia containers and transport systems.

Deconstruction Table

The Deconstruction Table destroys an item and creates a Knowledge Fragment containing the aspects registered to that item.

Property Value
Processing time 4 seconds
Input slots 1
Output slots 1

Items can be inserted from any side except the bottom. Knowledge Fragments can be extracted from the bottom.

Items without registered aspects cannot be processed.

Arcane Wand Workbench

The Arcane Wand Workbench is used to assemble and modify modular wands, scepters and staves.

Unlike a normal Arcane Workbench, it uses primal aspects stored inside the inserted wand.

The workbench can be upgraded with an Arcane Wand Workbench Charger placed directly above it.

Arcane Wand Workbench Charger

The charger periodically restores Vis and primal charge to a wand placed inside the Arcane Wand Workbench below it.

It can draw energy from:

  • local Primal Aura;
  • Centi-vis (CV).

Wand Recharge Pedestal

The Wand Recharge Pedestal holds one compatible item at a time.

Supported items include:

  • modular wands;
  • rechargeable Thaumcraft items;
Property Value
Node search range 10 blocks
Charging interval 5 ticks
CV conversion 100 CV per charge point
Direct CV buffer 200 CV per aspect

Right-click the pedestal with a compatible item to place it. Right-click again to retrieve it.

Storage and containers

Block Capacity or function
Void Chest 72-slot inventory shared between linked Void Chests.
Big Jar Stores brains, experience
Jarred Node Contains a captured aura node for transportation.

Void Chest

The Void Chest stores its contents inside a shared magical network rather than inside the individual block.

Property Value
Inventory size 72 slots
Maximum linked chests Unlimited
Cross-dimensional linking Supported

Linking Void Chests

  1. Use an unbound Name Tag on the first Void Chest.
  2. The Name Tag stores that chest's network and coordinates.
  3. Use the bound Name Tag on another Void Chest.
  4. Both chests will now display the same inventory.

A bound Name Tag is not consumed and can be used to connect additional chests.

Sneak and use an unbound Name Tag on a linked chest to restore that chest to its original private inventory.

Breaking a Void Chest does not destroy the network inventory. The contents remain available through another chest connected to the same network.

Big Jar

The Big Jar is a 2×2×2 multiblock that stores Brain in a Jar content, Cognitio essentia and experience.

Property Per brain Maximum with 6 brains
Experience capacity 2,000 XP 12,000 XP

A newly placed Big Jar begins with one brain. Additional Brain in a Jar blocks can be inserted by right-clicking the structure.

The Big Jar attracts nearby experience orbs and stores their XP.

Its contents are preserved when the structure is broken and placed again.

Golem mutiny

Brains stored inside the jar may occasionally influence a nearby owned golem.

Property Value
Golem detection range 6 blocks
Incitement time 3 seconds
Maximum mutiny duration 20 seconds
Maximum pursuit range 16 blocks

An affected golem temporarily turns against its owner.

Jarred Node

The Jarred Node contains a captured physical aura node.

Placing the block restores the jar structure. Using a caster on it releases the stored node into the world.

Capturing a node may reduce some of its stored aspects, so valuable nodes should be transported carefully.

More information is available in Aura Nodes and Primal Aura.

Machines and utility blocks

Block Main function
Compressor Presses compatible ingots into plates.
Mattery Duplicator Replicates crafting and Arcane Crafting results without consuming the pattern items.
Crystallizer Produces vis crystals from CV or surplus Primal Aura.
Primal Aura Converter Converts supplied CV into local Primal Aura.
Flux Scraper Periodically drains a small amount of Flux or Vis.
Void Beacon Uses Flux Rifts and essentia to produce resources.
Redstone Ticker Produces randomly changing redstone power.
Time Stone Accelerates nearby machines.
Temporal Accelerator Extremely powerful endgame machine accelerator.
Flight Stone Grants flight within its area.
Unflight Stone Prevents non-creative flight within its area.
CV Defender Creates a protective dome powered by CV and Praemunio.
Void Singularity Detonates after placement and damages nearby living entities.

Compressor

The Compressor converts one compatible ingot into one matching plate.

When multiple plate variants exist for the same ingot, the desired result can be selected through its interface.

Property Without essentia With Mechanism essentia
Processing time 4 seconds 1 second
Ingot cost 1 1
Plate output 1 1
Essentia property Value
Mechanism cost per plate 10
Internal capacity 100

It supports Ore Dictionary ingots and matching plates. Thauminite plates are also supported when Thaumic Bases is installed.

Mattery Duplicator

The Mattery Duplicator contains a reusable 3×3 crafting pattern.

Items placed in the pattern are not consumed. Instead, the machine creates copies of the matching result using Mattery essentia.

Property Value
Pattern slots 9
Mattery cost per output 100
Mattery capacity 500

It supports:

  • normal crafting recipes;
  • Arcane Crafting recipes;
  • player research requirements;
  • Vis discounts.

Arcane recipes additionally consume:

  • the normal Vis cost of the recipe;
  • matching primal aspects from local Primal Aura.

The player using the machine must know the required research before an Arcane Crafting result becomes available.

Crystallizer

The Crystallizer creates vis crystals from supplied CV or surplus local Primal Aura.

Property Value
Processing time 2 seconds
CV cost per crystal 200
CV capacity per aspect 2,000
Primal Aura cost per crystal 4

When CV is supplied through a Port, the machine creates a crystal matching the stored aspect.

If no usable CV is available, it switches to local Primal Aura. It selects the strongest primal aspect above the chunk's natural level and converts part of that surplus into a matching primal crystal.

Crystals are inserted into an inventory in front of the machine. If no valid inventory is available, they are dropped into the world.

Primal Aura Converter

The Primal Aura Converter turns CV into Primal Aura in its current chunk.

Property Value
Conversion rate 100 CV per 1 Primal Aura
Maximum conversion speed 2 aura per tick for each primal aspect
CV capacity 4,000 per primal aspect

Compound aspects are decomposed into their six primal components before conversion.

The converter is useful for maintaining Primal Aura around bases and machines that consume it continuously.

Flux Scraper

The Flux Scraper interacts with the ordinary Thaumcraft aura.

Every 20 seconds, it randomly drains:

  • 0.5 Flux; or * 0.5 Vis.

Because the result is random, the Flux Scraper can slowly clean polluted chunks but may also reduce their available Vis.

Void Beacon

The Void Beacon drains nearby Flux Rifts and uses the collected energy to produce resources based on the supplied essentia.

Property Value
Flux Rift range 16 blocks
Essentia capacity 100
Base progress required per output 200
Redstone behavior Powered beacon is disabled
Sky requirement Must have open sky

The beacon must have a clear line of sight to the Flux Rift.

Produced items are inserted into inventories touching any side of the beacon. Production stops when no adjacent inventory has an empty slot.

Void Metal pyramid

The beacon can operate without a pyramid, but layers of Void Metal Blocks beneath it greatly reduce its essentia consumption.

Complete layers Platform size Essentia per output
0 None 20
1 3×3 10
2 5×5 5
3 7×7 2
4 9×9 1

Each layer is placed one block lower and must be completely filled with Void Metal Blocks.

The type of supplied essentia influences the possible output. Default outputs include ores, terrain blocks, plants, Thaumcraft resources and other world materials.

Sneak and right-click the beacon with an empty hand to clear its stored essentia. Cleared essentia is released as Flux.

Redstone Ticker

The Redstone Ticker produces an irregular redstone signal.

Property Value
Output strength 0–15
Time between changes 2–30 ticks
Time in seconds 0.1–1.5 seconds
Chance to output 0 25%

When active, all sides provide the same redstone power.

Time Stone

The Time Stone accelerates ticking machines and other compatible block entities inside a small area.

Property Value
Radius 3 blocks
Area 7×7×7
Extra updates per tick 3
Approximate total speed

It does not accelerate players, creatures or ordinary random block ticks.

Time Stones cannot be stacked. Two Time Stones whose areas overlap disable one another.

Temporal Accelerator

The Temporal Accelerator is an extremely powerful endgame version of the Time Stone.

Property Value
Radius 5 blocks
Area 11×11×11
Extra updates per tick 300
Approximate total speed 301×

It does not require fuel, but accelerating complex machines at this rate can cause severe server lag or unintended machine behavior.

Overlapping Temporal Accelerators disable one another. Time Stones and Temporal Accelerators do not accelerate each other.

Flight Stone

The Flight Stone grants survival flight to players inside its area.

Property Value
Range 48 blocks
Player check interval 10 ticks
Flight-effect duration 40 ticks

The effect is continuously refreshed while the player remains inside the area. Flight is removed after the player leaves the field or the stone is broken.

Creative and spectator players are unaffected.

Unflight Stone

The Unflight Stone prevents non-creative players from flying inside its area.

Property Value
Range 48 blocks
Player check interval 10 ticks

It disables both active flight and the ability to begin flying. Creative and spectator players are unaffected.

CV Defender

The CV Defender creates a spherical barrier around itself.

It requires:

  • a continuous CV supply;
  • Praemunio essentia from containers within 4 blocks;
  • Impetus when Thaumic Augmentation is installed.
Property Value
Activation time 2 seconds
Minimum radius 4 blocks
CV input for maximum radius 10 CV per tick
CV capacity 100,000
Praemunio conversion 1 essentia provides 100 reserve units

The shield radius grows with the rate of incoming CV.

Shield costs

Blocked effect CV cost Praemunio cost
Projectile 100 3
Magical attack 250 5
Block-changing effect 200 4
Explosion 1,000 20

While active, the shield also consumes a small amount of CV and Praemunio continuously. Its consumption increases temporarily after it blocks an attack.

The dome blocks effects crossing its boundary, including:

  • projectiles;
  • magical attacks and beams;
  • harmful magical clouds;
  • explosions;
  • fire, fluids and supported block-changing effects.

Attacks and projectiles already entirely inside the dome are not stopped unless they cross its boundary.

Void Singularity

The Void Singularity is a placeable destructive block that automatically detonates shortly after placement.

Property Value
Fuse 2 seconds
Effect radius 30 blocks
Damage 115
Damage type True damage
Terrain damage None

The blast affects living creatures inside the radius, including the player who placed it.

Its damage bypasses armor, absorption and most protective effects, but it does not destroy surrounding blocks.

More information is available in Combat and Tools.

Aura and node infrastructure

Block Function
Aura Totem: Push Moves a selected primal aspect away from its inner area.
Aura Totem: Pull Draws a selected primal aspect into its inner area.
Aura Totem: Inner Pole Expands the inner working area.
Aura Totem: Outer Pole Expands the outer working area and increases transfer speed.
Aura Totem: Pure Pole Reduces the chance of Flux being created.
Port Transfers CV between linked devices.
Node Stabilizer Holds one aura node safely above itself.
Advanced Node Stabilizer Stabilizes a node and transfers aspects from nearby nodes into it.
Node Transducer Converts a stabilized node into an energized CV source.

Aura Totems

An Aura Totem transfers one selected primal aspect between chunks.

Place a Push or Pull Totem on top of up to five Aura Totem Poles.

Property Value
Maximum poles 5
Aspect transferred per pulse 1 Primal Aura
Pulses provided by one crystal 500
Accepted fuel Six primal vis crystals only

Use a primal vis crystal on any part of the Totem to insert it. Sneak and right-click with an empty hand to remove one stored crystal.

Totem types

  • Push moves aura from the inner area into the surrounding outer area.
  • Pull moves aura from the surrounding outer area into the inner area.

Pole types

Pole Effect
Inner Pole Increases the radius of the inner area by one chunk.
Outer Pole Increases the outer radius by one chunk.
Pure Pole Reduces the chance that a transfer releases Flux.

Inner and Outer Poles also reduce the delay between transfer pulses. Larger and faster Totems have a greater Flux risk unless Pure Poles are included.

Port

Ports transport CV between aura nodes and compatible devices.

They can be linked using the Port Linking Wand.

Property Value
Maximum link-chain length 32 Ports
Maximum transfer through one link 50 CV per tick
CV capacity per aspect 2,000
Line of sight between linked Ports Required

Ports can supply:

  • Crystallizers;
  • Primal Aura Converters;
  • CV Defenders;
  • Wand Recharge Pedestals;
  • Arcane Wand Workbench Chargers;
  • other linked Ports.

They can also receive CV from energized aura nodes.

Node Stabilizer

The Node Stabilizer holds one aura node directly above itself.

While active, it:

  • keeps the node centered;
  • prevents normal movement;
  • prevents dangerous node interactions.

A redstone signal disables the stabilizer and releases the node.

Advanced Node Stabilizer

The Advanced Node Stabilizer provides stronger control over the node above it.

In addition to normal stabilization, it:

  • keeps the node tightly centered;
  • drains one aspect at a time from nearby unstabilized nodes;
  • transfers those aspects into the stabilized node;
  • can completely consume a donor node;
  • can slowly improve a Fading node into a Pale node;
  • can normalize the regeneration of an Unstable node.
Property Value
Donor-node range 4.5 blocks
Aspect transferred per pulse 1
Transfer interval 3 seconds

A redstone signal disables the stabilizer.

Node Transducer

The Node Transducer is placed above a stabilized aura node and activated with redstone.

Property Value
Conversion time 10 seconds
CV output scale Based on the node's decomposed primal aspects
Required output Port Beneath the stabilizer setup

During conversion, the node's compound aspects are decomposed into primal aspects. The energized node then produces CV while the Transducer remains powered.

Turning off redstone returns the node to a normal non-energized state.

Detailed setup and safety information is available in Aura Nodes and Primal Aura.
