Gerbil
The gerbil is a passive mob found in deserts and mesas. They can be tamed and picked up by players for transportation.
Wild gerbils spawn naturally in multiple biomes on grass blocks, coarse dirt, sand, sandstone and terracotta. They typically spawn in groups of 2 to 3 gerbils, but the amount depends on the biome they spawn in. They have a 10% chance of spawning as a baby.

Wild gerbils roam around their habit, exploring in random directions. They cannot swim, so they attempt to avoid water as much as possible. They can be tamed by feeding them carrots, beetroots or sweet berries. Once tame, gerbils will follow their owner wherever they go, but cannot teleport to their owner if they get too far away. Instead, players can interact with a tamed gerbil to pick them up, converting them into an item. Gerbils can be placed back down at any time.
Tamed gerbils can be bred with carrots, beetroots or sweet berries. Baby gerbils cannot be picked up, so they must be harbored in a pen in order to keep them safe until they have grown up.
Occasionally, gerbils will decide to get a bit adventurous and perform a somersault. This action isn't very common, so be sure to catch it when it happens!
