Since 0.6.0 Mumcord has plugins: small, optional add-ons that give Mumcord new features, such as polls, dice rolls, a pet or a remote for a music bot. This is Epic 3.1 (plugin system). Plugins run only in your Mumcord; the Mumble server needs nothing, and people on the official Mumble client see at most a plain text line.
- What each plugin does: plugin wiki
- All official plugins, signed: registry
- Writing your own plugin: plugin docs
| Plugin | What it does | Open in Mumcord |
|---|---|---|
| Poll | A question with 2 to 10 options and live results; people without Mumcord can vote with !poll 1
|
mumcord://plugins/poll |
| Dice roller |
/roll d20, 2d6+3, advantage and disadvantage; rolls are made together so nobody can cheat |
mumcord://plugins/dice |
| Echolings | A small pet in your Plugins strip that friends can visit, with two mini-games | mumcord://plugins/echolings |
| Mumbot Music | A remote for a Mumbot music bot: now playing, skip, volume, queue | mumcord://plugins/mumbot-music |
| EVE Fit | EVE Online fits pasted into the chat become a ship card with the full fitting view | mumcord://plugins/eve-fit |
A mumcord://plugins/<id> link opens the plugin's details in Browse. It never installs anything by itself.
- Settings > Plugins has the tabs Installed, Browse, Updates, Repositories and, with Developer mode on, Developer. No plugin is installed by default.
- Installing shows an install prompt in plain language: what the plugin wants to do, each permission marked green, yellow or red, required ones fixed and optional ones as switches. You can change permissions later.
- Plugins appear in the Plugins strip under the channel list, as cards in the chat, as slash commands such as
/roll, as a small badge next to names, in profile cards and in a person's right-click menu. - Updates install automatically by default; an update that asks for more permissions or comes from another author waits for your approval. You can also choose "notify only" or "off", or pin a plugin to its version.
-
Turn off all plugins in Settings > Plugins or in the command palette (Ctrl+Shift+P, Cmd+Shift+P on macOS). Starting Mumcord with
--no-pluginsloads none. - Third-party repositories (up to 10) are added in Settings > Plugins > Repositories. Their plugins are labelled "Unofficial".
-
Developer mode (Settings > Advanced & Developer) adds the Developer tab to load a plugin from a folder. Authors install the tools with
cargo install mumcord-plugin.
- Plugins run in a sealed WebAssembly sandbox with no access to your network, files, microphone, chat text, certificates or passwords beyond what Mumcord offers them, and with limits on memory and time. A plugin that keeps crashing is turned off; your voice is never affected.
- Official plugins are signed and checked on install and after every Mumcord update. A kill switch can disable a harmful plugin, with the reason shown.
- Checking for plugins sends no identifiers and no list of what you have installed. Plugin data stays on your computer. See Privacy and code signing.
- macOS: Mumcord 0.6.0 closes when a plugin starts (for example Echolings). 0.6.1 fixes it; update Mumcord.
- A plugin misbehaves: switch it off in Settings > Plugins > Installed, or turn off all plugins. Its diagnostics are on the same page.
- Mumcord does not start after installing a plugin: start it once with
--no-plugins, then remove the plugin.
The plugin system talks to other Mumcord users over Mumble's standard plugin data channel; see Plugin data protocol.
