Final Lap Twin combines racing with RPG exploration. In Quest Mode, travel between cities, race opponents, and upgrade your car to challenge the champions. Grand Prix Mode and Test Mode focus on circuit racing.
Start with the missable achievements, then follow the Quest Mode roadmap or look up a specific achievement. Secret locations are hidden in expandable sections.
- Search: Use the Search command at any time while walking to look for hidden messages or parts.
- Magic Board: Lets you travel over water in Quest Mode.
- Race Mode / Auto Mode: You drive in Race Mode. The game drives in Auto Mode during Quest Mode races. Several achievements require Race Mode.
- Passwords: Write down earlier passwords before attempting missable achievements.
Quest Mode has three missable achievements. Check their conditions before defeating champions or visiting new cities.
| Achievement | Condition to protect | Before you proceed |
|---|---|---|
| Mysterious Boycott | Beat Nancy Slick without her shop's parts equipped, before reaching Lanta, Flago, or L.J. | Attempt Nancy's challenge early. Keep a password from before entering the restricted destinations. |
| Roadtrip! | Reach L.J. without beating any champions. | Keep a password from before defeating your first champion. Losing a race sends you back to Etroit, so avoiding losses saves a long walk. |
| Son, I'm Proud of You! | Beat Alan Pross with no more than two destinations visited, and watch the ending. | Visiting a city registers it immediately. Avoid additional cities and the Warehouse; the latter also counts toward the visited-region restriction. |
Save separate passwords before progressing past these conditions. For example, after reaching L.J. for Roadtrip!, you cannot earn Mysterious Boycott on that same route if you have already visited L.J. For the restricted ending, visit only Etroit and Lanta, and avoid the Warehouse.
Follow these steps for a suggested mastery order. Each link has the full requirements and optional screenshots.
Read the missable achievement warnings and keep separate passwords before entering restricted cities or defeating champions.
2. Begin in Etroit and prepare for Big Mick
Guess I'm Fast Enough has a seven-minute gameplay limit, so it deserves an early attempt. Mick-tory Lap requires Race Mode. During normal racing, work toward Every Underdog Has Its Day, Turbo Top-Up, and Beyond Stock.
Champions have paired achievements, often with different race conditions. Check Rick Drift, Nancy Slick, Vito Rico, Fat Pat, and Sherry before challenging them.
Complete Ahead of the Curve, Neck-and-Neck, Leap Frogging, and Ramp Champ as opportunities arise.
After getting the Magic Board, complete Twin's Beacon, Watts' Weight Loss, Minute's Masterpiece, and Matt's Imports. Use the hidden-parts reference and the Sightseeing entries for search locations.
Check Digging for Drivetrains, Dial It Up to 99, and the money milestones before finishing. You're a True Champ and Son, I'm Proud of You! both require watching the ending.
Use Other Game Modes for Grand Prix and Test Mode.

- Transmission: Manual cars have more horsepower than automatic cars. Start with automatic to learn the controls, then practice shifting to use the extra power.
- Engine: In F3000, V8 offers better acceleration for winding tracks, while V10 favors high speeds on long straights. F-1 offers faster V10 and V12 cars.
- F-1 handling: F-1 cars are faster but have less responsive steering than F3000 cars.
- Cornering: Slow down before sharp turns. Going off the track causes a large loss of speed.
- Road signs: Watch the signs before each corner. One arrow indicates a gentle turn, three a sharp turn, and six a very sharp turn.
F3000 has 8 races, while F-1 has 16. Finishing first through sixth earns 9, 6, 4, 3, 2, or 1 point. Finish sixth or better to advance.
For the championship achievements, finish in the top three overall and watch the ending. Perfect championships require winning every race, not just finishing first overall.
Test Mode is a one-lap race without opponents. Set a new course record to earn its achievement. For America and Spain, a new record on any one of their courses qualifies. F3000 and F-1 records are separate.
See the original game manual for controls and driving techniques.
