Figment Cage

Figment Cages define controlled chunk regions where imagined mobs may spawn and remain.

The cage is available from the Functional Blocks creative tab inside the creative building workflow. It has no Survival crafting recipe.

Charging

Use the configured chargeItem—an Echo Shard by default—on a cage to add one charge. Sneak-use the cage with an empty main hand to remove one charge. Each successful interaction uses exactly one step.

Charges Region Emitted light
0 1×1 chunk 0
1 3×3 chunks 2
2 5×5 chunks 4
3 7×7 chunks 6
4 9×9 chunks 8

The configured maximumCharges can cap the sequence below four. Charging consumes the configured item unless the player is in Creative mode.

Seeing the boundary

Hold a Figment Cage or Spawn Egg near a cage to display its chunk-aligned boundary.

Mob rules

  • All mobs are allowed by default except the Ender Dragon and Wither.
  • Wardens and Phantoms are allowed.
  • Each cage supports up to maximumMobs, default 16.
  • A mob spawned outside a cage region is rejected with clear feedback.
  • A mob that leaves every cage region disappears.
  • Paintings, item frames, armor stands, and other decorative entities do not require a cage.
  • Mob spawner blocks are allowed by default, but spawned mobs must still satisfy cage rules.
  • Reverie mobs are one-hit kills.
  • Normal mob loot is only retained when the killing blow uses a Sword or Axe, including compatible modded tools. Bare-hand kills suppress loot.

Operators manage denied entity types with the mob-list commands. Vanilla mob spawners work inside a Figment Cage region without requiring darkness. The cage still enforces its region, mob deny list, collision checks, and population cap.
