The Tutorial Page User Testing

AdityaSHadinata edited this page Oct 5, 2021 · 1 revision

Purpose

The main purpose of this user test is to investigate and evaluate whether the Tutorial page has a positive impact to the overall game wellness. This user test is very important for this project to improve the overall user experience and game understanding which is very important to maintain the user interest.

Process

5 users will be taken randomly, made sure that the user never play the game before. All user testing will be done online by interview in the zoom meeting. User will then asked to try and observe the game:

  1. Overall game without the Tutorial page.
  2. Overall game with the Tutorial page included in the main menu.
  3. We will not give any clue on how to play the game what the game is all about.
  4. Note down all important observations during the game trial process.
  5. Ask an open-ended key questions specifically about the Tutorial page functionality.

Key Questions

  • What do you feel when you try the game without the Tutorial page? are you able to complete the game?
  • Do you think the existence of Tutorial page is important for the game understanding? or do you find the Tutorial page is useful?
  • Is there any other improvements can be made from the tutorial page either design/content?

Observation Summary

  • 5 out of 5 users are having difficulties on playing the game the first time.
  • 3 out of 5 users needed some time to figure out the move buttons.
  • 4 out of 5 users are having difficulties on the first monster they faced
  • 5 out of 5 users do not know there is a bag system implemented in the game.
  • After looking at the tutorial page all the user are able to play the game successfully.

Interview Summary

User 1

  • "I could not complete the game and having difficulties on finding the key to move"
  • "Yes, I think it is very important for me, after looking at the tutorial page I can at least pass the first monster."
  • "Maybe remove the white borders, seems out of the place."

User 2

  • "I am unable to complete the game, I can't use the mouse to attack?"
  • "Yes of course, every game has a tutorial.
  • "Designs can be improved by using related font style."

User 3

  • "I can't complete the game however, I know how to move and attack."
  • "Yes, I just realize there is a bag system in the game."
  • "As you only have 1 tutorial page, you should include more information inside."

User 4

  • "Can't complete at first, made it after a few trial and error.
  • "There is no way I can complete the game without the tutorial."
  • "Do not include too much on the tutorial page. If you give out everything the game won't be interesting."

User 5

  • "I could not complete the game, and I am very confused when the first time I try it."
  • "The bag system is new to me even though I figured out how to move. Yes it is important, I am able to complete the game after reading the tutorial."
  • "You can come up with a better design, possibly related to the topic and theme of the game."

#Conclusion Concluding from all the testing results, we found out that a Tutorial page is very important to be implemented in the game. Tutorial page is used to avoid any confusion on how the mechanics of the game works which provide a better understanding of the game and the game wellness.

For further improvements, we can improve the tutorial page by adding several more pages to show each single status/npc in the game to increase the overall game understanding. However, this may cause an uninteresting game where all the mechanics has been shown in the tutorial page which may reduce the game difficulty.

Some other further improvements, we can also improve the tutorial page by using a first 15seconds clip of the game and introduce the tutorials while the user is playing the first 15seconds of the game. Large amount of coding needed for this one.

Overall, the testing result is pretty good. The tutorial page made the game much easier to understand for all the new user. We decide to include the tutorial page and improve the design of the tutorial page with a better style to provide a better user experience and understanding.
