distance board testing

yungseop edited this page Oct 4, 2021 · 2 revisions

Purpose

The main purpose of this user testing is to investigate and evaluate how users think and feel about the style of the distance board screen. This user testing will be significant toward our project since there can be some deficiency of our team's final design. Hence, the outcome of testing will be conducted for the improvement of the system.

Process

Due to the current COVID-19 situation, user testing will be done by an online zoom meeting. Testers will experience the system through the remote control of zoom functionality.

distance

This is the final design of the distance board that users will see during testing.

  1. Testers will approach the distance board.
  2. Write down some important observations.
  3. After the experience of distance board we will ask the testers some open-ended key questions.

Key Questions Asked

  • What is the purpose of this distance board?
  • What do you think of the design of the distance board?
  • What do you feel about colour contrast of this screen?
  • Any suggestion for the improvement?

Results

USER 1

Distance board purpose

I think distance board is to show how far player has traveled during the game.

Distance board design

Design is ok, I can clear figure out that this is distance board, because it says on the top 'distance'.

Colour contrast

In overall colour contrast of this distance board is good, because it matches the game design.

Improvement Suggestion

Maybe some detailed design of the text on the distance board.

USER 2

Distance board purpose

It is to show the users how far they have traveled, but I don't know if this is really necessary, because there already is a scoreboard.

Distance board design

Design is very similar to the main scoreboard. Hence I don't see the difference between these two.

Colour contrast

Colour contrast is great, it matches the game background colour and doesn't feel awkward to have this design there.

Improvement Suggestion

Some details about what the distance board do and its purpose will be significant improvement I think.

USER 3

Distance board purpose

Number in the distance board raises as I play the game, but I don't get the purpose, because this is not a scoreboard. It just shows the distance of how far I traveled and it is not related to score system I think.

Distance board design

Design style is nice. It matches the pixel art style and the colour of the distance board looks great too.

Colour contrast

Colour contrast of the distance board matches well with the game. It is city night theme and the distance board satisfies this theme as well.

Improvement Suggestion

Some explanation about what the distance board do will be great, because it is not the scoreboard, so I don't see the purpose of it. It is understandable if distance board exists to just show how far users have moved, but short explanation will be great!

USER 4

Distance board purpose

The purpose of this distance board is to show users how far from the game start that players have moved. So the higher distance moved will result high final score.

Distance board design

Design of this distance board is simple and easy. I can clearly figure out it is there to show the distance board.

Colour contrast

Colour contrast matches well with the game. I think it looks decent

Improvement Suggestion

I don't really have a particular improvement suggestion. It looks neat and nice to me.

Summary

This distance board is just a simple implementation. Testers didn't have any confusion understanding what it does. However as summary for the result of this testing session. Many users didn't understand the purpose of the distance board, because there already is scoreboard and they think it is unnecessary to have another board that looks like score. Because the number on the distance board keep raising as user plays the game and it is very similar to scoreboard. Hence our team might need to put some explanations about the distance board or give some purpose to the distance board such as some achievements.
