FAQ
Can it open retail packages or games bought from the PlayStation Store? No. They are encrypted, and the tool refuses them. It contains no keys and no decryption, and none will be added.
What is a "debug package"?
A package built with the plain PPRPLAIN-NOAUTH! filesystem seed and fake-signed (unencrypted) executables, as produced by development tools. Its contents are readable without keys; they are only compressed and wrapped.
What is Kraken? A compression format from RAD Game Tools' Oodle library, widely used in games and supported in hardware on the PS5. Most 256 KiB blocks of a package's game image are Kraken-compressed. The decoder here is a Rust port of open-source code; it is plain decompression, not decryption.
Why is the unpacked game larger than the .pkg?
The package is compressed. Use --list to see the unpacked size before extracting.
Does it run on Windows or macOS? Yes. Ready-made binaries for Windows, Linux and macOS are on the releases page. Running the game is a separate matter: that depends on what AnyPS5 supports on your system (see Running with AnyPS5).
Is it fast?
Each file decodes at about 55 MB/s on one thread, and --jobs decodes several files at once. A 2.4 GB package extracts and relinks in under 30 seconds; a 93 GB one takes much longer and is mostly disk-bound.
My game extracted fine but crashes or stops. That is almost always AnyPS5's coverage of PS5 system functions. See Running with AnyPS5.
Does it modify the .pkg?
No. The package is only read.
Is this legal? See Legal.
