Direct Messages and Repeaters
A direct message only carries the first 12 characters of the sender's public key. mcIRC matches windows by key, so 3ddcdf84 and "Alice's Node" can never be two windows. A key-only window renames itself as soon as the real name is known (from the node memory, or by asking your radio), and if both somehow exist they are merged, history and logs included.
Double-click a name or node, /query <name>, /msg <name> <text>, or right-click a node in the node list.
Open its private window and type / commands - they are sent to that device:
-
/login <admin password>- kept in memory only, never saved or logged. (/logoutforgets it.) -
/ver,/neighbors,/stats-core,/clock sync,/reboot, ... see Slash Commands.
Replies appear in the window. Dangerous commands (reboot, erase, power off, password change, OTA) ask for confirmation first.
If your radio has forgotten the repeater (it only stores about 350 contacts), mcIRC re-adds it from its own memory automatically. The repeater must be reachable by radio; "no reply within 8 seconds" means out of range, wrong or missing password, or a command that gives no reply.
