Books, Qualities, and Serialized Works

Works and physical books

Biblio distinguishes a work from a physical in-game book.

• A short work may be one physical book.
• A long work may be dozens of physical volumes.
• A work's natural divisions—such as chapters, acts, cantos, letters, sonnets, stories, or essays—are preserved.
• If one natural division exceeds Minecraft's 100-page written-book limit, it continues in numbered parts instead of being abridged.

This produces the catalog hierarchy:

category → work or story → natural division → physical part

When chest loot chooses a long work, it gives one of that work's physical volumes. The complete collection command contains every physical volume once.

Source texts

Biblio converts complete prose from cited public-domain editions into Minecraft books. It does not generate or rewrite the literary text. Title pages, lore, catalog entries, and metadata preserve available authorship and edition credits.

Some source collections require careful cultural attribution. For example, the Dakota stories use “Dakota oral tradition” as the written-book author while retaining the literary reteller, and the Egyptian selection is intentionally story-focused rather than a collection of ritual or funerary texts.

Physical qualities

Every physical volume can appear in one of five qualities. The underlying loot weights are 1, 5, 18, 12, and 8 respectively.

Common / Library Edition	18	The most common readable copy
Worn	12	A visibly used but readable copy
Damaged	8	Condition-specific text damage such as water, smoke, salt, frost, mould, sand, tearing, or fire

Quality weights remain proportional for signed and unsigned variants. A specific chest pool may alter the overall condition mix; village loot, for example, has an extra pristine opportunity.

Signed copies

Signed copies keep their underlying quality and add signature metadata, signature presentation, epic rarity, and an enchantment glint.

• Any signed copy appears about once per 56.82 book rolls under the generated weights.
• A signed First Edition has an exact 1-in-2,500 probability per book roll.
• The signer is the known author or the most appropriate credited signer configured for that work.

With Scholar installed, signature ink is varied and additional visual presentation is available.

Serialized works and collecting

A serialized work's command and loot-table entry points to the work as a whole. Selection then chooses one physical volume from that work. Volume metadata identifies the work, division, part, and place in the full series.
