A relic ruin generates beneath hilly and mountainous terrain, occasionally emerging partially above the surface. The structure can appear in a broad range of biomes, including all forest types, all snowy and icy biomes, plains, savannas, deserts, etc. The average distance between adjacent relic ruins is set to 24 chunks, with a minimum gap of 8 chunks. However, the placement also checks for sufficient surface height (terrain at Y ≥ 88), therefore, the actual frequency in real world generation ends up being noticeably lower, and relic ruins is most likely to be found in the mountains.
