Soul source can be broken by hand, dropping 1-4 rough soul shards.
Soul source generates as ore veins of 2–3 blocks in the soul sand valley biome.
Additionally, if a mob dies while standing above soul snd or soul soil, the block beneath it transforms into soul source.
