Getting Started

Warning

Pre-alpha. There is no release yet and no gameplay in the current build. The project is at milestone M0 (build skeleton). This page describes how to get the development build running and what to expect.

What you can do today

  • Build the mod from source and launch a development client with Create and CC: Tweaked loaded.
  • Run the unit, architecture and GameTest suites.
  • Browse the ~270 placeholder block models and their preview sheets in Art Pipeline. They are resource files only; no blocks or items are registered in game yet.
  • Read the design: start with Overview and Design Pillars, then Progression.

Requirements

Component Version Notes
Minecraft 1.21.1 Java Edition
NeoForge 21.1.259+ required
Java 21 a JDK is needed to build
Create 6.0.11+ required
CC: Tweaked 1.120.2+ optional; needed for Lua computers, the DCS/SCADA level (A4) and up

Planned optional integrations: JEI or EMI, Jade, Serene Seasons, Simple Voice Chat, Sound Physics Remastered, Xaero's Minimap / World Map, Distant Horizons. All of them will be soft dependencies.

Running a dev client

git clone https://github.com/denfry/Prompt_Critical.git
cd Prompt_Critical
./gradlew :pc-mod:runClient

The first run downloads Minecraft, NeoForge and the dependencies, so it takes a while. See Building from Source for all tasks, the jar location and troubleshooting.

Installing a jar

When releases start, they will be published on the Releases page. Until then you can take the promptcritical-jar artifact from a green CI run and drop it into mods/ next to NeoForge and Create (and CC: Tweaked if you want the computers). Expect nothing playable yet.

Where the mod is heading

The first playable milestone is M2 — coal and steam: a coal mine with methane and ventilation, a coal boiler, and a steam engine turning a Create shaft, with an in-game handbook that gets a new player to "First Steam" in about 30 minutes. The graphite pile reactor (T0) follows in M4. See Roadmap.
