Capsule packages a small application as a single portable file, the ".capsule" container, which bundles an HTML-based user interface, a data schema, and a local SQLite database into one document. A user describes what they need in plain language, and the app is generated by an AI model -- ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini -- and produced as a ready-to-run container. Because the file is self-contained and works offline, it can be shared the same way a document would be, over WhatsApp, email, or AirDrop, and opened by the recipient without any account or cloud service.
The desktop application is free and available for macOS, Windows, and Linux, with installers in each platform's native format and a web-based preview version, plus mobile support described as in development. The product is at an early version (0.5.2) and does not disclose a user base, funding, or open-source status.
Capsule is placed in Assess. It represents a novel document-as-application model worth tracking as AI-generated software distribution matures, but it is very early: no first-person use, and no disclosed evidence of production readiness beyond the version number and available installers.
